Hi everyone,
Anyone know where I can get a soft cue tip from? I could use a hand with makes and brands etc. I currently have a blue diamond, it’s hard and doesn’t hold chalk all that well. I’ve sanded it in the past and it makes little difference....
Some advice from those in the know would be much appreciated. In the past when I’ve used other peoples cues (such as Jim’s) I get noticeably more side on the ball playing the exact same shots. So I’m thinking of getting me some of that particular awesomeness….. learning to use it properly, becoming a better player and then inflicting pain on those that have done the same to me….
Thanks in advance.

Now you've got my brain cells buzzing..... I seem to remember Sparky getting a stock of Elkmaster (I think) about 10 years ago.
I was having the same problem as you Glenn, the blue diamonds just didn't cut the mustard.
You never know Graham might still have some of his stock, worth a call?

Elkmaster are better than Blue Diamond, but what you want is a Blue Velvet. I recall Milko re-tipping Jean's cue with one of these and she started banging in 10k's at will.

Blue Diamond got to be very inconsistent in quality so I stopped using them. I've been using Elkmaster for several years and have almost a full box of 10mm tips.

I use Blue Diamond and as others have said above, very inconsistant in quality. I went throught 6 tips in one season to get to the one i have now and have had the same tip for almost 2 seasons now. (I bought a box of 50 1mm bigger than needed so i could get to the meat of the tip with sanding and trimming) I do give my tip a prick once a fortnight sometimes once a week to rough it up. (Depends how many thousands i have hit in the week) its had a few in the last couple ????. Elkmaster as said above is also another tip i have used but is too soft for me ????. Stuart Mepham uses these and will probably re tip for you if you ask him nicly.
I have heard of blue velvet but never used them.

Thanks guys, this has helped a great deal.....yes I've read about Elkmaster on the net, but blue velvet is a new one on me! You guys have any particular outlets I should buy some from, or should I just be giving Sav a call?

Anyway Glenn surely you should know..... it's not the tip on the cue that matters, it's the nut holding it

what is the story in tip maintenance? are they continually getting flat and you have to round them up? are they gradually going rock hard/ that is if they are not rock hard of course when you fit them!
the other question was; why the variance in tip width? 7, 8, 10mm it seems?
thanks!

Tips are entirely a matter of personal choice, some like pencil thin tips others like mushroom tips.
Over time the tip wears down and gets clogged from grease and polish and less responsive to side, time to change it.
I still use Elkmaster, slightly over size and VERY carefully grind them down on a wheel to flush with my preferred thin cue tip size.

I have now discovered the reason why I am consistently crap at our game. I have switched from Q-tips and now find my game has improved. Also I can hear stuff betterer.
