Not wishing to interfere or seem rude Martin but with this number of entries shouldn't the competition have started at 10.30 as is the norm when there is a smaller number of players?

Sorry but the comp is advertised as a 10am start as always, not going to change it now, entries only 7 down from last year so same number of rounds still need to be played. Everyone involved in running the comp is setup for a ten start, food, management, club etc.

Well done to Curt beating Martin Cole in the final also well done to Matt Jones who beat Tony Cross in the plate final ..and here he is the right way up ! A great day with lots of shocks as one might expect with off-the-spot. Here is the last 16 onwards: James Whittle lost to Geoff Jukes; Martin Cole bt Dave White; Alan Brackenridge lost to Mark Brewster; Dave Ingram bt Dawn Jordan; Kevin Tunstall lost to Matt Knight; Jack Baden lost to Ian Lelliott; Jim Greensted lost to Nigel Senior; Mark Trafford lost to Curt Driver. Last eight stage: Jukes lost to Cole; Brewster bt Ingram; Knight lost to Lelliott; Senior lost to Driver. Semis: Cole bt Brewster; Lelliott lost to Driver. Plate Semis: Sami Baden lost to Tony Cross; Matt Jones bt Stu Carruthers. Mentions for dispatches.............. 1. Young Jack Baden, for his last 16 place: he beat Gerry Fitzjohn in Round 1 and Phil Osborne in Round 2. Already a formidable player at such a young age. Sister Sami had a good run too, in the Plate. 2. Matt Knight - rewarded my (tipsters) faith in him, knocking out Mark James, then K.T. 3. Stu Carruthers. After a nightmare start, good Plate victories over the World Champion, then W/C's brother Pete, and then the evergreen Ernie Jordan. For many, a good preparation for the World Championships in Jersey, and good luck to all who are making the trip.

An excellent report from Tommo. Congratulations to Curt on winning (another) title this season, he really is playing well and must be one of the favorites for Jersey now! Commiserations to Martin Cole who also played superbly all day and, having won the Guernsey Open earlier this year, also clearly enjoys playing off-the-spot. Matthew Jones followed up his win last year by winning the Plate Competition this year beating Tony Cross in the final and Nigel Senior would have won the High Break Award for his 20k plus break.... but there was no trophy awarded for that and (unusually for a national open competition) there were no trophies for quarter/semi-finalists and seemed to be no prize money for anybody? However, it was a very enjoyable day and many thanks to those that organised and ran the competition, the tables were all very good and Colin Robbins provided his normal excellent selection of food on the day.

This is a shame for those that deserve trophies for their efforts, Dave. I know that this is being run by outside parties now but it's still down as an All England event so surely the All England Association should pay for the Highest Break trophy. Rule 65g says there will be trophies for Winners, Runners Up & Highest Break
