Ohuruogu won in 49.61, Sanders second in 49.65. Terrific race, it looked like the Jamaican all the way but the Brits just pipped her on the line.
Is Ohuruogu allowed to compete in the Olympics next year in light of her missed drugs test suspension?

Its just a shame they look like a couple of geezers, otherwise would make great tv. Why cant we have a load of page 3 models competing in the athletics? Trampolening would be a good one to kick off with :P

WOW – Asafa Poweell broke the 100m World Record running a time of 9.74, knocking 0.03 off his previous best. He even eased off slightly as it was just the heat, and he ran 9.78 in the final.
I think it shows he did bottle the final in the World Champs, if he could convert his top form into the major championships noone could touch him

Powell needs a major title if he is to be remembered as a great runner. World records come and go, but a gold is for keeps. Calvin Smith set the world 100m record in 1983, but few have heard of him (he was one of the first to openly question Ben Johnson performances, and whether "a lot was unknown"). Athletics is all about winning the championships, records are an added bonus, the GP circuit a side show.

Agree that Powell needs a major title to be remembered as one of the greats. He has fluffed two chances but I expect him to do it in Beijing next year if he is injury free, although he does seem to have trouble with injuries. At the moment only Tyson Gay can beat him even if he runs poorly – he would have had the silver in Osaka had he not given up with 20m to go.
He reckons he can run 9.68, lets hope for his sake he saves that for the Olympics next year!
