Cock 3-2 Hassocks B
Jim and Chris won for the home side , and Jenny and Barry won for the visitors. Hugh and Dom played out the decider. Dom led from the first shot to the last when Hugh doubled the red in the 200 to narrowly seal the win. An enjoyable evening in good company , with close games and excellent food.

We had an interesting game tonight.
We were at home to the Cock HL. David Croft from the Cock HL team took offence to the home team having a roll up prior to the match and asked if he could also, to which he was told no as only the home team could practice. Although I believe the away team can roll 2 balls up ?
He then mentioned to us that we were the only team to do this. I am not sure if he was suggesting we were the only team to have a roll up or the only team not to let the away team have a practice, either way I can not believe this to be true ?
I have been playing bar billiards for 22 years and can only ever remember the same rule that the home team can practice and the away team not.
Ben Procter was then questioned why he was practicing to which he replied he could as it was his home table !
It all then got a bit nasty with David then telling Kevin to make sure he beat the Wa×××r (Ben Procter) in the last game. Ben had a black peg to which David cheered this of course upset Ben and words were exchanged.
Within my 22 years of playing, almost every game I can remember has been played in good spirit between the sides, tonight was very dissapointing and not acceptable.
A pleasant night against 4 of the Cock HL team.
Can I just clarify the rule of having a roll up before the game ?
Also do other home teams have a roll up prior to the match as I am sure nearly every away game I go to the home team are doing this ?and do other home teams allow the away team to also have a roll up ?
Sorry to have a rant however it did ruin the night on what I thought was a well known rule.
We won 4-1 tonight with Ben losing under tough conditions in the last.

We at hassocks do practice now I am someone who won't play when they arrive but that's my choice but the rest of our team practice Now as for the roll up the rule is actually under Sussex inter league matches and not under normal playing rules it is however put that if after the first game if not happy with the table they can cancel the match but this did not happen Sorry to hear Ben being disrespected like that no one deserves that and I have had it done to me enough times. I hope he bounces back with a win

... do other home teams have a roll up prior to the match as I am sure nearly every away game I go to the home team are doing this ?and do other home teams allow the away team to also have a roll up ? This is rather suggestive of table idiosyncrasies that you want to keep secret from the away team, Richard ! I'm with Bob on not practicing on it after the opponents have walked in, and - whenever I remember - I leave the balls in the tray for my opposite number to test a straight ball to each pocket - although more often or not in the past the offer has been politely declined. Maybe I'm just being naive, but to me pre-match preparation should consist of the home captain making the table as user-friendly as possible for all ten players: ensuring it plays straight without any nasty roll-offs; brushing, ironing, and blocking; putting the light on to warm it up; cleaning the pockets and cleaning the balls; monitoring the condition of the D. (not pitted with craters like some.) Hardly often get any aggro, and our table usually get some nice compliments...far more important to me than winning or losing. tommo

Windmill Crawley 2, Brewers 3 Johnny ----, Neil Higgins 10230 (Neil a steady 7570 start, leaving Johnny no chance) tommo 4600, Terry Molloy 8030 (Terry a good 6120 in reply to my poor start, I failed to get 'em back and Terry buried me) Foxy 6090, Ros Appleby 3970 (Jim under the cosh for most of the game but played out with a break of exactly 5k. Unlucky Ros.) Graham 8610, Trevor Appleby 1020 (Graham getting the break back at will, and not much going for Trevor) Mick 4860, Nick Brown 8550 (Mick's reply matched Nick's opener, but didn't get another look in)
Brewers putting out their strongest team against us and the Worthing contingent played our table well and seemed to love it. No complaints from Terry, anyway ! Though Nick will be peeved if he learns he missed out on the sandwich replenishment... Jocular evening.

All teams received a pre season pack which contained up to date Mid SX, Sussex & All England rules.
There is nothing in Mid Sussex Rules that prevent the Home Team from practicing on their table.
It's a shame that this has caused unpleasantness between 2 very friendly teams.
