Arsenal = "Best foreign team based in North London" ;D
Now, the double-winning team of 1971 was good, with Frank McLintock, George Graham, Charlie George; John Radford up front, George Armstrong on the wing and Bob Wilson in goal. ;)

Just goes to show how much those who write for the Daily Mirror know about football. I guess that they could put it all on the back of a postage stamp, and still have room for more. I have to check the calender to make sure that the date prointed in the paper is correct.

Pompey were described at the weekend by Lee Dixon (former Arsenal player) as being the "only team capable of breaking into the top four" - which at the moment doesn't include Chelsea !

Yes, It is a pity Chelsea wont be in the top 4. They also wear blue.

After Tonight's display from the Arsenal reserves and they go one better than last year, would they be eligible for the Euefa Cup in they're own right!!!

It is still early days. At least the Gunners didn't cheat against the Blades this time like they did in the FA Cup when Kanu was not a sport !!

Not that much has changed... My father was a Gooner through and through - I got to know this lot pretty well. Paddy Rice, Bob Wilson, Frank McLintock, George Graham, Eddie Kelly; all internationals - just not English. If asked to vote on the most consistently entertaining London side down the years; then (even allowing for the George Graham 1 - 0 era; I would still put Arsenal at the top of the pile. At times, quite breathtaking.

At times, quite breathtaking. Obviously too young, then, to remember this earlier Double-winning side from 1961 - the first of the twentieth century: Brown; Baker, Henry; Blanchflower, Norman, McKay; Jones, White, Smith, Allen, Dyson. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D A good mix of Englishmen, Scotsman, Welshmen and Irishmen -as it should be. ;D Yes, I followed the Spurs in those days, as I was a schoolboy, they were the Man U or Chelsea of the era, and I didn't know any better: It was only when my Home Town came into the Football League in 1977 that I started to support them instead (and have done - through thick and thin - ever since).

When your talking about entertaining London teams lets not forget QPR of the mid 70s when they were London's top side with the likes of Gerry Francis, Dave Thomas & Stan Bowles to name but a few. Now as we have some decent financial backing you can expect us to return soon. I think Bernie made the right choice!

Aw!
I didn't think you were old enough to remember that lot! ;D
Dave Thomas, I believe, ended his playing days at Bognor Regis; player coach possibly? The Rocks do like to play football properly too, so he would have felt quite at home there.
Tommo, you are correct sir! Being '62 vintage, the earlier double winning side did not register - though, with a Gooner for a father, I doubt that it would have been overly sensible to mention it anyway ::)

Are Steve I'm older than you look, do you think the Gooners will go all the way this season? I have to say they are playing some very attractive football & believe me that is hard for a QPR fan to say. Also good luck to your wife & you on your impending move over to the island at the end of the month, you will be missed around the circuit.

Judging by last night's dispaly against Reading, the Gooners will be there or thereabouts - and will deserve to be.
Thanks old chap - we would LOVE to be going over as planned, but; as with many such things, the horse fly of disruption has royally stabbed the arse of desire - As things stand; we are likely to see out the season ::)
I expect some of them out there will be as fed up at the prospect as I am... ;)

Sad to admit it, but regardless of the lack of opposition The Arsenal looked awesome last night. Tremendous first time passing game.

And how friendly of Arsenal to play the day after United so that they get top spot for a few hours!
