Tuesday 10th May was finals night in the Dover, Deal & District bar billiards league, held at the Fleur de Lis, Sandwich.
The Open Singles was won by Chris Saville, a record fourth consecutive triumph. Saville, who plays for the Red Cow, faced Warren Cowdrey from the Magnet, Deal. The first leg was very close as Saville needed the last ball in the 200 to edge Cowdrey 4,310-4,290, but in the second leg he opened with a 6,500 break to finish on 9,130 and once again stand triumphant.
The success continued for Saville in the Division One Singles final, as he beat Derek Latham from the Fleur de Lis 2-0. Saville took the first leg 4,750-3,270, and another big opening break in the second saw him finish on 8,080 for the title.
In the Division Two Singles, Nigel Scott from the Fleur took on Dan Petley from the Market Inn, and in a very close match won 2-1. Scott (3,910) took the first leg, Petley (4,750) won a solid second leg, and Scott gained the last leg and the title sinking the last ball down the 100 to win 2,820-2,730.

A couple of familiar faced featured in the Mixed Pairs final but with the same result, and Chris Saville & Gill Saville beat Warren Cowdrey & Dawn Williams 2-0, to give Saville his third title on the night. Chris Saville dominated the final and he and Gill finished with scores of 9,180 and 11,730.

Neville Potts and I successfully defended our pairs title in the best of three final against Tim Bourner and Wack Sampson on the Red Cow. This match was held over from finals night due to Nev fracturing his wrist.
Tim opened with 3k but struggled with a succession of out of position shots. I replied with 3.7K in a similar fashion as neither of us could get to grips with the table.
These slow exchanges took 16 minutes! Neville contributed a vital 500 potting in the last two minutes to prevent Tim and Wack from having time to snatch the leg back.
Second leg was a different story with me opening and tapping on 9k. The table is certainly in dire need of recovering this summer.
