BIOC Ladies Championship 2017

[BB Warrior]

On behalf of AEBBA, Sussex County Bar Billiards are pleased to advise that entries are now being taken for this tournament.

The competition will be played on Sunday 23rd July 2017 at The Roffey Club, Spooners Road, Horsham, West Sussex, RH12 4DY

11.00am for 11.30am start

Entrance £10 per person

There will be a Main and Plate Competition and it is planned to have Groups for the first round to ensure that players get as many games as possible.

Less than 3 weeks until the closing date and only 3 entries received.

I have been told that there will be entries coming from Oxon and Surrey so hopefully those will be sent through soon to enable the competition to go ahead this year, we really need at least 16 players to make this viable to run.

How's this one going, Dave ?
For a National competition now staged in Sussex, the response appears somewhat disappointing. One might even be forgiven for putting the ladies' apparent lack of enthusiasm (21 last year, 6 so far this) down to the glorious summer so far ...

I've just put a bulletin up on Mid Sussex, Billingshurst and Horsham websites in the hope of attracting some local interest.

I will almost certainly be extending the date for entries in the hope that we may get enough ladies to make this viable to run this year.

Wise to extend the deadline, but obviously doing the Draw whilst at the Kent Open (as advertised on the entry form) won't now be possible !

List updated.... the draw will be carried out at our Sussex Team (Watney Mann) Cup match on Thursday 13th July so I will keep entries open until that date in case there are any more ladies that do wish to take part.

If any further ladies wish to take part, positions will be allocated to replace the byes in Groups in order B, C and then D.

Under the above format, all group games will be single leg games with even breaks but not equal opportunity with first named player breaking first. In Groups where there are 4 players, the first break in the final group games will be decided by a toss of a coin.

Should any player drop out between now and the start of the competition, the positions in the groups will be shuffled (in the order drawn) to try to give groups of 4. The format would then change to double leg games should this happen.

Congratulations to Jean Brackenridge on winning her third BIOC Ladies title, having previously won the competition in 2007 and 2015.

Jean beat Colleen Park in the final after beating Sandra Hall in the semi-finals while Colleen had beaten Denise Wills at the same stage. Ros Appleby won the Plate Competition beating Mel Standbridge in a close final. Jean completed a very successful day by also winning the High Break Award with 9,160 and it was nice to see no less than 6 different ladies featuring on the list of high breaks.

With a couple of ladies withdrawing from the competition before and one replacement, the format was changed to Groups of 4 players and double legs were used in all of the group games with 1 point being awarded for each leg won and one point for the aggregate win.

Results from all of the games will follow below but first a few thank you's..... to Roffey Club for hosting the event, Colin and Jackie for providing the food, Dave Alder from bringing down and collecting the tables for AEBBA, to the "many" people that were there early Saturday morning to set the tables up (you all know who you are) and to the "not so many" (Matthew, Joe, Dick, Lee and Stuart C) who helped to take them down on the Sunday evening.... lastly, well done to Jean for also running the raffle and to those that kindly donated some of the prizes.... THANK YOU ALL!
