I am still shell-shocked by what transpired at yesterday’s AGM.
I know and agree that the comms side of AEBBA has been weak and that is reflected by Dave having too much on his plate already with admin and table delivery, not as a criticism of any shortcoming by Dave. The AEBBA Secretay's position had basically become Tables Hire Manager.
Unfortunately, in my view, Dave resigned as AEBBA Secretary at the meeting and we have a new AEBBA Secretary in Lorin Clough of Northants.
My thanks goes to Dave for his efforts to overcome the mountain that has become the AEBBA Secretary's remit How he managed to allot so much time for our benefit in his busy family life deserves the highest praise.
Thank you Dave and best of luck to LC.
May I also thank Dave sincerely for his role as a forum moderator from which he has asked to step down.
Sav.

I am more than shocked, I am devastated... I left early. I had a text but clearly did not understand the full picture.
This is not what Dave wanted at all and I am convinced he still doesn't even though I have not spoken to him.
I believe Lorin was / is the right person to be Assistant Secretary and Nigel Assistant Tournament Director. This would have been a good year then for Lorin to market tournaments and set up communications appropriately for which I feel he will be fab. Adjust roles in the AEBBA Committee and ensure parity in the work involved and get all involved. I believe his vision for the future was in the best interests of the game but ..........
Dave clearly stated he would/wanted to continue as Secretary next year ??? How did it come to this? Sorry but I do not accept it - it may have been at an AGM but I feel Dave was vulnerable due to emotions that he had over his post and no one recognised this - so he just bowed out.
In no way is any of the above meant in any offence to Lorin

If Dave has just resigned fully it is indeed a shock and a shame, I would have thought he would stay for a year to enable a smooth hand over to whoever was to take the role forward.
I wish Loren all the best in his new role and think he certainly is going to be good for the future of the AEBBA.
I know it is very early after the AGM, but Sussex will be holding their Singles and doubles weekend very early in January and hope someone can clarify what arrangements are in place for table hire and transportation of the tables.
I wish Dave all the best for the future and hope we will see him at Opens and AEBBA events.

I believe Lorin was / is the right person to be Assistant Secretary and Nigel Assistant Tournament Director. The second position is an invention ! AEBBA Rules provision for a Secretary, Assistant Sec and a 'Competitions Secretary'. It has worked well in past years for the Secretaryship to embody the Comps Sec role under the title of Tournament Director with Dave at the helm, and with support in the form of Nigel as Asst Sec - or Asst Tournament Director if you like. With such apparent flexibility in the set-up it is a surprise if no role has been found for Dave within the new regime. I too thank him for his sterling efforts over the past ten years, more often than not taken for granted. At the same time I wish 'new broom' Lorin every success: IMHO he faces a monumental task to pull things round, but I am certain too he has the organisational abilities required, and is deserving of everyone's support.

Unfortunately due to a last minute commitment I was unable to attend the AGM this year but as County Secretary (and having Sussex competitions coming up in a few weeks) I did ask for a rundown on what went on
Perhaps I’ve understood wrong but I feel the new appointments can only be a good thing.
My understanding is that Dave is staying on delivering tables and running the competitions Lorin is taking over as secretary to liaise with county secretaries and promote AEBBA competitions (taking a lot of the secretarial work away from dave)
As I said surely this can only be a good thing as it has taken some of the workload off Dave
I’m hoping someone who was at the AGM can confirm this

Hi all,
It is heartening to see how eager people are about the outcomes of yesterday's very important meeting.
However, before this gets out of hand - it is perhaps worth stating that the minutes have not yet been published and so it would be unwise for people to make assumptions about this. During the meeting a long discussion took place regarding how those who wished to lend their efforts to the AEBBA committee should be assigned to maximise the benefit of their strengths. Dave is highly regarded and widely recognised as a vital member of the committee as he adds tremendous value. This was the case before yesterday's meeting and continues to be so after the meeting.
I will be delighted to clarify everything in the coming days.
Many thanks,
Lorin

Can i just clarify a few points which have already been made here which are not entirely correct and before things start escalating.
Firstly, Dave did not resign, he just did not get re-elected as secretary after some very good discussions were had on the future of the AEBBA. Dave will continue in his role of Table Deliverer and Tournament Director. It was agreed that Dave is doing both of these roles extremely well but was maybe lacking in his duties of secretary, which he was in agreement of. He was more than happy to stand aside and let Lorin come into the role of secretary. If Dave feels like he was pushed out, this was certainly not the case and i do hope he doesn't feel like this.
The role of Tournament Director was put through as an amendment to the assistant secretary role as the assistant secretary role was already in place (Nigel holding this position). So the TD position should now be in the AEBBA rules.
Hopefully the minutes can be published quickly so there can then be a discussion on what actually happened without things being talked about without having the full facts in place.

Ok, let's take a time out here, relax, put your feel up, stir the tea and sip, sloooowly
I was definitely at the AGM yesterday
changes have been made to a few things, but some things remain stable and solid
Table deliveries will continue as usual, no changes there, so please don't worry(unless it snows on the day of delivery, then and only then should you panic)
Looking forward to working with Lorin

Unfortunately I couldn't make yesterday due to work commitments, but it seems like there has been alot of negativity come from it.
Yes I am on the AEBBA committee so once I have read the minutes, got the facts I will express my views and concerns with them (None of which are to do with the election of new officers, quite the opposite really) as i don't believe in spreading negativity within our game where it is not needed, however i will make one point.
Our game is in decline and there is no doubt that if we don't do something about it we wont even have an association to argue about in years to come. This thread is labelled THANK YOU DAVE ALDER, so can we get back to the point of the thread!
I wish to thank Dave for everything he has done for this association and cannot believe he has put up with us for this long! There is no doubt you are the best person for the job of Tournament Director, as you have delivered the tables, ran the AEBBA competitions with perfection and without any help! Dave is still a vital part of this association and still carries a massive burden! Just now with Lorin as Secretary that burden is no longer impossible! If anything the AEBBA committee can only become stronger.
Which leads me on to welcome Lorin as secretary and having worked with him on the Northants Committee, I know he is the perfect person for the job. You only have to look at the difference in our league to see its a positive thing. We have grown in size and we are always the first to reach out and try and integrate new leagues/versions of the game. We can either slowly watch our game die out and do nothing about it, or we can embrace change and positively move forward and try and promote the game.
