Inter Area One Day event 2018

I am very pleased to announce that, with the kind assistance of Phil H, Dave A and Reading BBA, the Inter Area One Day competitions (Sevens, Ladies and under 30s) with be held at the Arborfield Royal British Legion Club, Eversley Road, Arborfield, Berkshire, RG2 9PR on Saturday 1st September 2018. (the day before the Berkshire Open)

This is much later in the year than normal and on a Saturday but I hope you can all attend as usual and make it the great success that it normally is.

I have just sent this to all my Inter Area contacts;

Dear all,

Reluctantly and after much consideration and consultation with the rest of Inter Area committee, we have decided to cancel this year’s Inter Area One Day event on Saturday September 1st. This decision is not taken lightly but the response to my email poll was sporadic and largely unenthusiastic and we would certainly not reach the numbers that we need for a successful day.

A lot of work goes into any one-day event but if people don’t really want it then it is wasted work, and one often feels that you are forcing people into something they do not wish to do.

An appalling sense of apathy has crept into our area over the last few years (with some notable exceptions) and this, combined with a lack of support from some of our senior players, has lead to the current state of affairs.

I would like to thank most sincerely our colleagues in Reading who undertook to host the event so willingly and I apologise even more sincerely that it will not now take place.

Sad times…

We will review the ongoing situation at the AGM in January 2019.
