Glad you asked ! The task emanated from a request on this Forum whilst the AEBBA website was in its former guise. Following a prompt from the Chubbster, they were looking for volunteers to help raise the profile of the game, put the message out there, etc. This was my contribution. I used Google Drive as it was convenient and reliable. At the time I was having similar problems to others with my own website design facilities ("Frontpage") and stumbled on Google as a solution to host pages showing 50 years of league records: about 200 pages in all across 3 websites. I agree that the current place for Timeline is not ideal, but the plan was always for the information to be absorbed within the AEBBA platform, which never happened. Having put the effort in, it is now the simplest of tasks to update following a major event on the BB calendar. I see - ‘‘twas ever thus! Let’s talk soon and see if we can do even more. Best wishes, Lorin

Indeed ! A passing observation of my own on your impressive new Northants website: You seem to have very little in the way of archive - it's as if your league only exists for the present and future, but not in connection with your sometimes glorious past !!! In this respect, assuming you still have the records, Google might provide the answer (completely free to those taking out an account).
Best regards, tommo

A passing observation of my own on your impressive new Northants website: You seem to have very little in the way of archive - it's as if your league only exists for the present and future, but not in connection with your sometimes glorious past !!! In this respect, assuming you still have the records, Google might provide the answer (completely free to those taking out an account). Best regards, tommo Firstly - thank you for taking the time to visit our site. We are very proud of it as, so far, it fulfils all of the functions we have set out for it. As you will have seen, against each match played all the results are recorded and displayed and you simply then click on any player from the recorded fixture and you see their performance history in every competition we host. You could also access this through the team pages results. Further, against each competition page, below this year’s draw is a list of previous winners. All our entry forms, subscriptions and payments for all of our events are transacted through the website too so I would say that is reasonably comprehensive. Now, it is true that I am yet to upload the full data that I have for league fixtures (to be fair this has only been recorded and retained in patches and only 5 years of which is in a ‘soft copy’ format) and so I have 3 years of data to upload which could be considered easy as there are two seasons in there just now - although it is not a priority. The other info, which does exist, as I say, in patches can also be uploaded - but that would be a painfully slow data entry process. I’m not big on copy documents on to web pages really so would have to opt for the data entry route. I guess here is where we may diverge on a couple of things - not least of which a definition and value of ‘archive’. You are right that there is no narrative against competitions of yesteryear but nobody, not once, not ever has asked me for it. As the league secretary I do have some archive material and I agree, it is a shortfall of the site that it is missing some history about the county teams and performances - something I will rectify in the next few weeks. Let’s target the end of March? Otherwise, I am not sure what other archive you think would add value to it - given the lack of requests for anything. Would welcome your thoughts after you explore the site at more length. We make no apologies for being future focused - it drives our day to day and enables us to grow our membership, our teams and our sustainability. Which are reasonable priorities to hold. But this applies to our league - some archive exists and will be retained and passed on when my time is over but it is unlikely to be prioritised on the site. However, as I mentioned in a previous post, the more holistic archive and timeline that you have created does have some very real merit in my view and I would love to talk to you about how we make more of it. I’ve already had a number of ideas that I can talk to you about when we speak. Back to Northants - feel free to highlight improvements to the site that you feel would add value as sometimes I do lose my creative spark and our members love a bit of innovation! Best wishes, Lorin

Trying to set up the brighton website at the moment and hopefully giving Brighton members information they want. It puts you off when you see criticisms of people’s websites wondering if you will get the same!
Surely it is up to Individual leagues to maintain their websites as they see fit for their league. Any suggestions should come from within their own league.
I applaud AEBBA in trying to move forward especially with all the bad press they have had in the past about not being at the forefront of promoting the game.
Let’s hope everyone will support this move forward. Be it on proboards, Facebook the AEBBA website. We all have a choice of which media we wish to use. Each to their own.

That said - I didn’t take Tommo’s Comments as particularly critical. Just a different perspective. Lorin

Not to stir the pot again this week but isn't criticism, as long as it's in a constructive manner, the most effective way for one to improve oneself?
It really ought not to be a negative.

You will I'm afraid Jean, anyone who puts their head above the parapet will get shot at, though I applaud you for it. Your personal battle will come when your website is set up and the initial enthusiasm has waned. Keeping the site up to date, which is vital, is far more onerous than the adrenaline rush of setting it up. Good luck!

Which is more what we're about down in Sussex with its multiple leagues.

The last thing I want to be seen as is critical of someone else's website, knowing too well the amount of work that goes into planning and maintenance thereof. Perhaps I should explain my motives behind the following earlier comment.......... A passing observation of my own on your impressive new Northants website: You seem to have very little in the way of archive - it's as if your league only exists for the present and future, but not in connection with your sometimes glorious past !!! ........which was simply an attempt to establish the extent of the archive material available, and afterwards to follow up with a suggestion, which would have been the following: All three of the websites which I maintain contain a feature "Achievements on a National Level". It should be a worthwhile task for anyone interested enough to disseminate all achievements relating to their county since 1991 by 1) copying Timeline onto Word; 2) highlighting the relevant lines; 3) deleting everything else; and finally 4) uploading the page to their own website. There is no copyright on any of my stuff, you have my full permission... I say "my stuff" - I in turn lifted most of it from this Forum; the previous AEBBA site before we lost it; and from BBQs 1 to 64 as kindly hosted by Barbelman on the Witney website, with full permission from both himself and the originator, the one and only Fazza.
