I know that one of Matthew's favorite sayings is that it was a "raucous" evening.... would probably be fair to describe this as one of those with the usual suspects being most guilty! It would also probably be fair to say that the table proved "tricky" and seemed to get harder as the evening went on.... plenty of chances for all, plenty of scratched heads and plenty of laughs as well. A good result for the home team that (temporarily) lifts us out of the relegation zone and up to the dizzy heights of 3rd place in the league, certainly our highest position so far this year.... and almost as high as our team mate (Lloydy Van Gerwin) who was away climbing Mount Kilmanjaro this week! There was also a rumour that a nice tasty curry and chips arrived just before the start of the game, sadly the vultures descended so I am unable to confirm the truth of this rumour! Brilliant evening in superb company....

Thank you for an excellent report as always Dave.... I would like to add a couple of thanks, to the person responsible for the right-hand cushion at the Marquis of Queensbury (or is that boxing) which decided not to play ball or take any balls close to the right-hand 50 pocket very often. This being conveniently summed up by the players in the last leg, who, occasionally throw in a decent game managing a grand total of 800 between them after they had a break each Also, to the scorer who I thought was excellent after the first leg, but as the match was slipping away from the visitors I was beginning to doubt his credentials. Sadly this was confirmed as he oversaw a victory for his brother in the fourth leg which gave the home team the match..... Fortunately, I can confirm an enjoyable night despite the result

Good night at the Alex despite the home team thinking they were the away team and therefor when we arrived they had not had a practice, also understand Smugglers A v Tarring Club not played as both teams were awaiting their opponents at their respective home venues as Tarring had looked at the original fixture list and not the amended one. Joe held up in traffic and arriving during the 3rd game. Loz off early then a battle at the top end where Loz got no run of the balls at all, James got the break back twice too make sure of a very good win. Mal opened with 6320 leaving Chris a very small chance as only bout 7 minutes left, but Chris could not get the break back and Mal added some more. TJ off at 500, Ben got them back but off at 750, the a battle at the top end, TJ on the table when bar dropped and in the lead, but lost a small break missing the all behind the left hand 30. Ben got and got the break back to sink the last 4 balls to make sure. Another bad night for the captain. Pet opened with 4.5k and whatever Steve done he could not get the balls back, Pete eventually did and made sure it went to a decider. Joe opened with 5370 and then neither he or Pete could get the balls back, giving us another hard fought win.

Henty 4 Swan A 1
A good result for the leaders putting more space between themselves and the chasing pack.
Molly 13110 v 290 Vern - A steady opening 9k from Terry who added more on his next visit Curt 7600 v 10610 Barry - A faultless 10k opener from Barry, Curt finished off for another high scoring leg KT 8220 v 4220 Dipper - Roger was going well until a whipper up the top ended his break. I replied with 7800 and whipped out just missing the peg Fitz 9200 v 3170 Brian - A couple of breaks for Gerry was enough to take the leg Chocie 14560 v 2230 Colin - Being stuck on the A27 for over an hour would make me angry. After Colin's initial break, he suffered the wrath of Chocie who pretty much played the rest out.
Thanks to the Henty for the Stew and nan breads😛

Think there was a fair bit of confusion this week, due as far as I can see that some of the fixtures on the wdbbl site and proboards are wrong. The Smugglers v Tarring Club should have been at the Smugglers, according to the official fixture list, whereas the wdbbl site shows it the other way round.
We very nearly also went to the wrong venue! The fixture list shows us at Home to the Marine View and wdbbl shows it the other way round. It was purely by chance that I spotted the error, in fact until late in the afternoon we were all set to go to the Marine View. Thankfully our opponents probably don't use proboards or the internet, so they were where they should have been. The error is borne out by the fact that wdbbl shows our return fixture against the Marine View on the 19th April as being at the Swan. That would make for an interesting evening, as the other Swan team are also at Home that night! As an aside, some helpful person had also told the Swan that there was no match, consequently there was no food. Never mind.
Anyway, here are the scores -
Swan Nomads 4 1 Marine View
Gary Ridley 7400 2910 John Hayes* Paul Barnett 4710 740 Bepo* Tony Burgess 1300 1500 Martyn Grubb* Nick Brown 8970 1030 Dave Catchpole* Neil Higgins 2860 1160 Matt Mason*
