An excellent night of Bar Billiards at the Tarring club. We had 4 tables set up downstairs in the bar.
The night started off with the two Ladies Doubles semi finals on table 4. Firstly Hayley & Chrissie defeated Nicki & Chris 2-0 followed by Jean & Chelle who beat Ros & Sheena by the same score.
Whilst the second semi was under way, the Men's Doubles final started on table 2 (actually it was the Nigel & Matthew show as KT & Nipper didn't turn up), After Martin's very unlucky black peg from behind the 30 pocket🤔, giving Nigel the break back, we were in trouble. Nige touched on at 9k and Matthew opened with the same score in the second for an emphatic triumph.
The Landlords and Captains cup was played on table 3 and although Pete probably lost as much as he kept over the two frames, he won comfortably 2-0
Brian B and Matt J contested the Lower Div singles final on table 1 and it was a really tight encounter with Matt edging it, game scores were 4760 v 4490 and 4440 v 4220😮
After the Ladies semis, the Senior singles final took place with Tupps (recently crowned Brighton old git champ) playing Fitz( his first Worthing final) on table 4. Fitz opened with enough in the first and in the second game, Tupps never got going, letting Fitz in for a 2-0 victory.
The Ladies were in action again on table 3 with their Doubles final. The first frame was quite open with several breaks and Jean/Chelle edging it 5730 - 4220 .In the second game, Jean took control with a 7k break avenging their defeat in last year's final 2-0
Up til last Thursday, we weren't sure who would be playing in the Div1 singles final. Pete Brown had recently had a hip operation but came through his semi without too many problems. This time he was up against the seasoned Barney, a different kettle of fish😏 The first two games went with break, Barney winning the first 8540 -510, Pete the second with 7510-2500. The decider was close but Barney got a winning break near the end and won 7170-3640
The B pairs final saw Pete and Brian in action again. Brian with son David and Pete with last year's partner Ben. Pete & Ben won the first narrowly 5100-4290. The second game however saw them win comfortably 8250-3860 to retain their title.
The mixed Doubles had 4 players that had already been in action. Kev & Hayley v Nige & Chelle. The first two games went against the break and in the decider Nige was put in first and smoothly ran the table out for 19390. My reply wasn't so resounding, breaking down on 1300😕 Well done guys
Nigel was swiftly on to table 3 to play Mark James in the Men's final. Nige again kicked off with10k and added more. Mark unfortunately whipped his first split shot and came off leaving Nige to take his first Worthing singles final. Well done mate.
The last final was the Ladies singles between Chelle and Ros. This was a very close fought match with both players having plenty of chances. Chelle took the first 5380-4240. Ros the second 5800-3240. The decider was tense with Chelle just taking it by 500
Big thankyous go out to all the setter uppers, Stu, Pete Ben, TJ & Dave. A great set of match tables I think. Thanks to all the scorers who stayed late and thanks also to the Tarring club for hosting us
