Hi Everyone
This year’s championships will be made up of a combination mens and ladies teams (7 a side), each county has the right to send one mens side and one ladies side. Each county should state what sides they wish to send to participate no later than the 31 August.
After the 31 August if less than 14 teams have entered the remaining slots will be invited to be filled in the following order.
- A ladies select side (captain appointed by AEBBA committee) made up of players from counties that have not submitted a ladies side. - B sides that are currently in Division 1 – (currently Sussex B) - B sides invited in order as to where their A side finished in last years championships.
So can the following counties submit what sides (mens, ladies or both) they will be sending to Arborfield on 16 September (Division 1) and 23 September (Division 2) (the sooner the better please).
Sussex – A team & Ladies team Kent - A team Berks – A team Oxon - A team & Ladies team Bucks - A team Northants - A team Surrey – A team Hants - NO TEAM
I am assuming no Cambs, Suffolk, Yorkshire, Jersey, Guernsey – I believe actually only Suffolk may have paid their fees to be an associate member – perhaps Chrissie could confirm? These counties have not participated recently, so assumed not in unless told otherwise….

Suffolk are full members as far as I am aware, there is no fee for associate membership.
Member counties must also have paid those fees to be able to compete in AEBBA comps

When I press 'calendar' on the top bar of the forum home page, there is only the Bucks open. For the following month there is nothing. When are the county championships and what else may be happening over the next three months?

Hi All,
Please accept my apologies that the event dates have not been shown in the forum calendar - i did not realise I have the relevant access to do so. Thanks, Tony, for adding them.
They have been available in list form on this site and, of course in the event calendar on the AEBBA website AND the competition entry page on the site too. So many choices!! :-)
Please note that entries can be made for a number of the forthcoming AEBBA events via the Competition Entry page on the website. This will enable you pay your entry fees on registration should you wish.
Any questions - just give me a shout.
Best wishes,
Lorin

Hi Dave
There are two Divs and I feel that if you entered you may go into Div 2 not Div 1 on the 16th, so I think it would be 23rd. The composition of Div 2 is different including Ladies Teams.
Nigel please correct me if I am wrong.
So yes you will have a great day
Chris x

From the AEBBA website This highly competitive event sees teams from around the country compete for the Division 2 title and promotion to the very highest level of Bar Billiards competition. The very best players from counties all around the country will square up for one of the most closely contested events in the Bar Billiards Calendar. Current Division 2 holders Hampshire won promotion last year and so there are plenty of teams aiming to land this prestigious crown. This event will take place at Arborfield British Legion Club on the 23rd September. The address is: Arborfield British Legion Eversley Road Reading RG2 9PR

Dave, it would be fantastic if you were able to enter a team from a Suffolk into the County Championships. As Chris rightly said, you’d be in Division 2 in the first instance with a chance to win promotion thereafter. For the avoidance of doubt - the format played is 3-Pin. Hope you can secure a team but let me know if there is anything we can do to assist. Best wishes, Lorin

Thanks for the responses to Dave's query guys. Just to add it is 7 a side, and Suffolk would indeed be entered into division 2. Hopefully there will be 7 teams in each division but that depends on the entries from each county. If there are 7 teams in div 2 then each player will get 6 single leg games on the day. You can see all the past results on the AEBBA website that should give you an idea as to the standard and the format the day takes. aebba.co.uk/county-championshipI would strongly encourage Suffolk to enter a side if they can field 7 regardless of standard, this is supposed to be a county championships and the more counties represented over the two weekends the better. The deadline for teams to enter their A sides and lady sides is 31 August, at which point B sides will be invited to fill in the empty slots.

I would check the Sussex rules first before committing to this Colin. From my understanding you would not be able to enter any Sussex county comps....... ever. By playing in Sussex only competitions this year you are signing up to be a Sussex player only and would not be able to play for another county. I think it’s something like that but am happy to be corrected.

Still seems crazy to me that players are wanting to help us poor four pinners out and obstacles are plonked in the way. I think it is basically excepted that Suffolk is 4 pin and for me to find 7 players willing to play 3 pin will probably never happen. So far I have 3. We do however have a couple of players who have played in my league 4 pin team who are not from these parts, their inclusion into our team could be enough to drum up some more interest

In fact, I am doing that just now to secure an additional league team locally. The rules that exist for the County Championships are not there to penalise you - or Suffolk, but (I suspect) rather more to prevent 'Dream Teaming' in more established counties. Once again, it would be both highly welcome and significant to get a Suffolk team - that goes for Notts too - within the eligibility criteria. As per my previous post - if we can help, we shall where possible. As for players 'who are not from these parts' they may either be restricted by their own counties (as with Sussex) or by the eligibility criteria for this event set by the AEBBA. For some players - they may still be free to make a choice so long as they comply with the criteria set out - and be willing to make that in your favour. For my part, I hope they can and do. Best wishes, Lorin

If all the teams confirm that they are playing who are in div 1 then you will definitely be in div 2. If we can't fill all the spaces we may have to make a decision for the best of the competition. Just to be clear as to why I say this, Hampshire are at the moment a doubt, they should be taking a place in div 1. They still have 2 weeks to confirm either way if they have a team.
