Think there will be a few missing as the date clashes with an event in Sussex that has been committed to by Sussex and also a Northants contingent. Pity as always a good Open.

I did know about Joe's birthday party but this was the only weekend I could get to accommodate the open and the inter area one day event. Must to my annoyance, the inter area have decided to not run the one day event now on this date and I wonder if this party is the reason why 🤔

Must to my annoyance, the inter area have decided to not run the one day event now on this date and I wonder if this party is the reason why 🤔 Mark, with regards to the Inter-Area one Day, you were at the meeting only yesterday so know the reasons as to why the one day is not being held that weekend. There was never any communication to say otherwise, and the last Inter-Area post back in September last year from Tony Willis clearly stated that the future of the Inter-Area one day would be discussed at the 2019 AGM. 4 Weeks is not enough time to organise, get trophies, raffle, and each captain to secure a team. There was maybe a lack of communication and assumptions made that we would would just run it anyway, however hopefully in the future we can make sure things are organised well in advance. Anyone who knows me, knows i have been passionate about trying to keep the inter-area running, hence why i took over as secretary so to assume i would just not run a competition for someones birthday is a lack of judgement of my character. I certainly didn't want the first act i do as secretary to be a failed competition due to lack of entries or organisation. Thanks Stephen

My comment was in no way meant as a bad mark against you personally Stephen and apologies if it came across that way. The inter area has always had their agm 2-3 weeks before the oxon open and always managed to get teams in, so I am just finding it difficult to understand why this year should be any different?

I think it was more the fact there was no one day last year due to numbers, and with Tony standing down, it was more important to make sure the competition was still viable and whoever took over as new secretary, had a lot to do anyway with getting the C team shield up and running early as possible and not being thrown in at the deep end. As said before it seems there was a breakdown in communication somewhere and going forward we can make arrangements much early on. I know as an association we are very greatful to the Oxford Open for the assistance with the one day and hope going forward it can be a permanent fixture when it has always been.

Hi Mark I don't want to get into an argument here but you being a little disingenuous... We have always benefitted from the Oxon Open and piggy-backed the tables on the Sunday (and I have never failed to be grovellingly grateful) but we have always in the past known about it months in advance - apart from last year - so that Associations have time to sort teams, trophies and raffle prizes can be sourced and for some teams, hotel rooms booked. I am sorry that you find it necessary to blame the Inter Area for the lack of entries, but I feel that lack of entries is more down to the lack of notice rather than anything else. I knew nothing about your proposed date until I read it on this Forum and to say at the AGM that 'everyone' knew you were looking at the 2nd or the 9th is again disingenuous...even if we had known we would still have needed a fixed date to advertise and organise. I sincerely hope that things can return to normal in the future... Tony

Sorry people, it's been a bit of a manic week on a personal level. Below are the first two series for you all to see. As it's groups, it would be appreciated if the other players in the groups would score when not playing, so getting there before your start time (if not on at 10) would be great. If anyone would like to bring a raffle prize with them, that would be good as it would mean i wouldn't have to go and buy some with this tournament already costing the association, Thanks |

Do I take it that player 5 gets a 10min knock up because in his first match he has to play against someone who has already played on the table............ That's one of the reasons why I don't like groups of five........... Not that I ever moan............. Milko
