John Hayes * | 1180 | 4390 | Pete Hickman | Martyn Grubb * | 1990 | 5090 | Joe Oakley | Bepo * | 2790 | 1830 | Mail Spier | Geoff Twinning * | 1640 | 1890 | Steve Aylmore | Martyn Grubb * | 2310 | 5120 | Tony Jenner | 1 | 9910 | 18320 | 4 |
John missed both balls on his 2nd break shot, Pete built a lead and steadily drew away for a good win. Martyn off at about 350, Joe did the same as Pete built a lead and continued to build on it. Bepo opened with 1k added some more before Mal got the balls back and got s 1.5k, during the game the police arrived and needed to speak to Martyn who was scoring, t this juncture Mal got a 600 break which it appears got put on the wrong score, Martyn took over again and when the bar dropped Mal was behind, we did not have a checker in place so could not query the scores, a genuine mistake if that was what happened. Geoff off at about 300, nip and tuck from then on, with Steve about 400 up when the bar went but Geoff on the table, Geoff fought back and when he came off with 3 balls left there was about 100 in it, Steve sunk 2 and got the 100 1st attempt to deny Geoff a shot at the 200 to win it. Martyn playing the 4 player rule went with the break ( on my insistence ) and was off early, I got them straight back and touched on 3.5k, Martyn got them back and going well with 2k but got a double kiss at the back of the table, I made sure. Good night at the Marine, table pretty good on the break bit of trouble with the timer in 3 of the games with the bar dropping at 14 minutes and having to re-pull the bar. Good to see despite their problems in getting 5 players the Maine are keen to carry on and we hope that will be the case next season.

Albion C 2 Henty 3 . One of two crucial fixtures left for us to keep our place on top.
Matthew 9360 v 1010 Chocie - A very good 7k opener from Matt leaving little chance of Stu catching up Nigel 0 v 9340 Nipper - Game of the evening if not the season. Martin missed his second one up, Nige replied with 8750. Then Nipper set about an amazing chase, coming off with 8k, leaving Nige to play some trick shots for the 600 he needed, but taking a black peg in the process. Tupps 6920 v 4320 Fitz - Gerry off on about 2k and Tupps took control after that Jean 2930 v 4780 KT- From the sublime to the ridiculous, Jean not able to position her one up right and me not able to play the top of the table led to this being closer than it looks Chelle 2190 v 7840 Curt - A steady start for Curt with 7k. Chelle had the balls back but couldn't make any impression
A nice sausage casserole with mash followed 🙂

Tupps with great leg as he struggles to play the table but never ceases to amaze, weird and wonderful 4th leg, then a solid start from Curt giving the visitors the match. Pretty good performance from the hosts to get 2-1 up......they only had Kev and Curt left........

Swan Nomads 4 - 1 Pocket Rocket played at the Alexandra
Our debut match at our 3rd "Home" venue of the season, and we have a lot to learn about the table. The main lesson learnt is that anything past the 100 hole is a lottery!
Tony Burgess 2580 1740 Matt Enticknapp* Matt opened with about 1.3k but struggled to add much after. Several small breaks enough for Tone to win
Ros Appleby 2240 980 Toni Hunt* Both players finding scoring difficult, but Ros doing enough
Nick Brown 6390 2970 Alan Mepham* Alan played well but a 5k break halfway through gave Nick the win
Paul Barnett 5500 6000 Ben Goodwin* Best game easily of the night. Ben opened with 4.5k and no matter what he tried, Paul unable to get the break back. Ben did, but only added 1.3k. Eventually Paul did get the break back but it always looked that he might be 30secs short of having enough time. So it proved, as he played the rest of the table out with a 5k break.
Neil Higgins 2390 980 Gemma Wilson* Gemma lost a small opening break and there followed a long and frustrating game where the balls ended up in odd places and the break wouldn't come back. Good news was that I did eventually get it back, however the bad news was that there were only 30secs left doh!
Hopefully we'll play the table a bit better next time. Many thanks to the Alex for allowing us to play there, and for laying on a nice spread of food.

Charles Dickens v Albion A
*Chris Lucas 5770 v 3330 Ian Lelliott Paul Moyes-Robb 0 v 13190 Martin Smith * * Andy Farmer-Wright 1940 v 7170 Geoff Jukes Steve Hurley 3940 v 9730 Mark James * * Dave Jones 1100 v 7860 Chris Cox
Game 1 was a scrappy affair, Chris having 3 breaks to Ian’s 1. Game 2 Martin kicked off with 9k, leaving the balls awkward. Paul had 1 shot, Martin then played out the remainder. Game 3 Geoff failed to make the most of an early opportunity with the break back, but he got a 2nd and took it. Game 4 was 1 visit each. Game 5 Chris pegged an early break, but Dave then holed 4 times, Chris made no further mistake.
This result, together with the one at Albion C reported earlier in this thread, means that next week’s match Henty v Albion A is not without significance in determining the destiny of the title.
