Hi all, I have made a bit of an experimental website to display the statistics of bar billiards players over the years, using data collated by Nigel Senior. It is really a prototype at the moment to show some things that could be done, I hope to develop it further in future. I'm sure there are inaccuracies, especially with players who have played for multiple different counties over the years (they have a separate entry for each county at the moment) It is available at: bbstats.co.ukHope you enjoy having a look, let me know any suggestions you have. Cheers, Joe

Yes, I'd had a preview of this and it's a great addition to the statistics available to the bar billiards world.
As you infer, records could do with being consolidated where players have represented more than one county. (Player name to be followed by Oxon/Sussex as an example).
Extreme care required, though, where two or more players share a name.
There are also some inaccuracies with counties represented, especially in the early days of the World Championships/BIOC Open, when sometimes a player's allegiance was not known at the time and they were put as Jersey by default.
Perhaps Nigel and/or myself could look at the duplicates for you ?

My stats are way out, I played in the first ever Jersey open in 1981, and played for 19 years on the trot, getting to the quarter finals in 1985, all it shows is me losing to Harry Barbet in 1992. Try again !!

Roger, these stats will have been taken from the National Competitions database as displayed on the AEBBA website. This in turn drew on the Bar billiards quarterlies issued by Pete Farrelly from 1991. Unfortunately the full records of BIOC Jersey from 1981 to 1990 are as you have observed not included as they are simply not available.
Having said that, one of the early BBQs did actually show the quarter-finals onwards in Jersey from 1981-1990 and if you want to see your name in lights visit this page on the Timeline and scroll down to the bottom:

Are there any records of the scores for the Internationals against Jersey as all it's got is the players we played against ? Also are there any records of the England v Jersey International in Southsea ? or Southampton ? when I lost against Tony Tagg in my only defeat at home ? Dave Plumstead was also in the team and won.

I'm afraid I don't know, all my data is what Nigel has collected so he would be the one to ask! I know he has put a lot of effort into getting the current data in good shape, my site is mostly just a proof of concept of how to display it anyway. Cheers! Joe

Hi Keith, If it's a full breakdown of Interntionals played you want, then the AEBBA website is the place to visit...... The earliest one shown in full is for 1989: Information taken from Bar Billiards Quarterlies, and information collated/transposed onto a workable template in this case by Curt as part of Nigel's working party.
Prior to that, the results only are known and these are available to see by visiting Timeline 1 of 3

Firstly I would like to thank Joe for all the time and effort he has put into this site. I hope you agree he had done a fantastic job.
The site will only be as good as the stats I am able to provide. I know there are issues with names etc but firstly I wanted to get all the matches on the site as I can now track down the errors more easily from the site itself. Please bear in mind it is a work in progress.
I have appealed before for the early Jersey and international info from the 80's pre BBQ but to no avail. If anyone sends these to me they can be added.
There are some 50,000 matches on the database which I am sure you can imagine takes some processing to get the results Joe has got. We have a few ideas on what can be added but will take a little time. But I think now we have a lot more of the games history on the internet and is easily accessible to anyone.

As a fellow stats mad lad, Massive Hats off to Joe for compiling these and for everyone involved for doing some exceptionally sterling work. I will have the stats for the East Anglian Open completed and sent over as soon as the information is finalised this year. Did you also want to add the 4 pin 4x4 results/tournaments as well as I can forward them over to you. Firstly I would like to thank Joe for all the time and effort he has put into this site. It will be great to get as much as possible on there eventually including 4 pin, but we will need to think a bit about how to record the different types of games so we can calculate appropriate stats, as things like averages won't work when combining 3 pin and 4 pin. We can of course calculate them separately which is easily done, we just need to work out a common data format. I will have a think and chat to Nigel over the coming months and we will hopefully be able to incorporate all your stats too before too long. Cheers Joe

Either it's not very user friendly or I'm stupid too, Keith !
After much wailing and gnashing of teeth, I found this to be a solution:
1. Load up the file for 1989 (from the link that I gave you. 2. In the toolbar at the top where the URL for the visiting site is displayed, change the year to the one you want. (NB in this case it will only work if the year is odd. If you want evens, change jersey-v-england- to england-v-jersey-) Eg:
3. You may need to scroll down to the bottom left and click on "download file" for it to load.
Hope this makes sense.
Regards, tommo
