Hassocks B 3-2 Watermill
Dom lost to Mark Chris beat Sabina Peter beat Craig Jack lost to Tony Barry beat Paul
In , what could easily be a wooden spoon decider , the B’s scraped a narrow victory .
1. Mark top scored for the visiting team 2. Chris led from start to finish 3. Peter got his maiden win 4. Pegs were flying , with both players losing four figure breaks. Tony was on zero , with a minute to play , winning with only 460 points. 5. Paul struggled to get going , and I helped the B’s to complete the double over the visitors.
The two fairly even strength teams , enjoyed a fun evening , of relatively low standard billiards. Nice food and plenty of laughs , with the first four games all close.
Unfortunately , this is the level of BB which is being lost , as new players and teams , are often soon discouraged, as thrashings by strong established teams , can alienate and discourage the future of the game , despite everyone’s best intentions.

Zeds bounced back from last week's shafting (by the Cock) to take it out on the usually-formidable Plough....
Tommo 13900, Chase 460 (a PB for yours truly, only taken me 51 years to top 13k in a match !) Mick 9600, Richard 1210 (impressive by Mick, although he claimed afterwards he never felt settled) Barry 3880, Dave 1040 (a Knight-mare for Dave who lost his opening break whereupon Barry ground out the win)
Margo 1930, Jan 6620 (Margo - in for Johnny Haigh sunning himself in Tenerife - made the early running, but Jan hit back with a break of 5590) Graham 5920, Ric 5100 (best game of the evening, Ric had two chances towards the end to overtake, but Graham just fell over the line) Windmill Z 4, Plough 1
So the cat set firmly amongst the pigeons now, with a four horse race for runners-up (how about that for a mixture of metaphors ?)

Barry has raised a very good point although I cannot see a way of solving it.Barry has done a great job with his team but there is always going to be the problem of new or not so good experienced players dropping out after getting a hammering week after week.We have to go to the Windmill soon and nothing against their players who are a nice bunch and can only play the team that turns up.Would love to hear what others think.

Toby - We're quite capable of losing to a lower division side as we proved against the Cock the previous week........or 0-5 to a top team like the Hassocks A for that matter.
And with an average age of 70 - now that we've lost the SilverFox - our days are probably numbered, whereas Barry's young team represent the future.

It's very difficult to strike a balance and avoid the newer player becoming discouraged, a lot of Barry's players have the skills and need to adapt not only to their home top but also the other tables in the League. We have all taken a hammering and still do you just have to put it behind you and move on to the next match.
My only observation and not a criticism is when we played there was that when they had played their game they left the room and went out to the bar rather than staying and watching the more experienced players and seeing what they do and picking up tips. I know Barry is coaching them and I hope they stay and gain more experience, it might help if they could arrange some friendly matches when on a bye week where other players are willing to pass on some help.

BHCC 2 HHUSC B 3
Ros Appleby 1390 Chris Kirkham 2200 Paul Barnett 3850 Iang 4890 Nick Brown 2370 John Lear 3600 Neil Higgins 7960 Steve King 2020 Spud 3380 Paul Jobbins 3050
Probably our best result of the Season taking the first 3 legs, the last game was one where whoever was at the table when the bar went got and Spud gave the home team another point. A good social evening as usual.

Week 18 13/3/2019 CKRBL 0 Hassocks A 5Looks like congratulations are nearly in order to Hassocks A who need just 2pts (and maybe fewer) from their last three matches to wrap up the Premier Championship.
More to the point, they are not the sort of team to take their foot off the pedal, and it will be interesting to see if they can finish the season undefeated.
This has only been achieved twice in forty years: by Gerry Smith's Green Man A with 16/16 in 1986/7 and by Tony Francis's Windmill A with 18/18 in 2000/1.
