It was a Sheard family final and it was Keith and Ray who won the title for the 2nd time which they won previously in 2005.
It was a cracking final, probably benefitting from me choosing table 4 which they had both played, the previous day as opposed to table 8 which looked a bit tough, but was the only table that they had not played. Alan Chaloner had the highest break of 20,320 till the final, but it was to be beaten twice....
Ray was put in first and ran the clock out for 16,360, Steven upped the stakes with a 21,700 break, Keith then started leg 3 by saying its my turn to come back and he did that with 22,400. The 17k target was a lot for Pete Phillips to chase and never looked comfortable and missed on 2k. Ray wrapped the match.
The losing semi finalists were myself and Chris Reeves and we lost out to Keith and Ray on tough table 7, Mal Spier and Chelle Baden were delighted to make the semis (out of a quarter including the pairings of Wooton/Lloyd (who they beat) and Tunstall/Dewdney) and were 9k up after leg 1. Steven Sheard though made a cracking 16k break in leg 2 and a big win against in leg 3 effectively sealed the match.
The losing quarter finalists were Stu mepham & Dave France, Tony Hearne & Cliff Slade, Ernie Jordan & Terry Isard, Dino Clark & Andy Haines.
KT and Rik Dewdney won the plate after Eric Hill shocked them in Round 1. They beat Frank and Jeanete Cox, who surprised Bernie McCluskey & Paul Sainsbury in the plate semis.
Finally many many thanks to Jean, Dave & Graham Alder, Chelle and Marc (for lending me his computer) for their help over the weekend, it certainly helped me concentrate on the billiards, as Jean did the tougher job ofworking out all the tables for the matches!

How long did clock run on the table used for the final? As Sav says about 18 minutes. A special table this one - saw 2 20ks at Oxon, and 3 in Bournemouth - Alan Chaloners 20k was also on this table. Look out for it at the other opens it is slightly darker varnish than on the other tables

Great weekend, well organised and good venue. As a new comer may I say it is well worth the trip and definitely there again next year ( all things being equal). Tremendous standard especially in the final, well done to all winners and the organisers.

WOW!!...... What a weekend for the Sheards to make the final. :) :)
May I say well done to Steven & Pete on some heroic performances to reach the final. Steven had spent most of the three days on the toilet with a stomach bug (nothing to do with the hotel I might add as he had it before we left home) so to even play at all was a great achievement.
I must also congratulate Ray on the way he played every match, he retrieved the break position nearly every time he went to the table & made a big break every time........brilliant. ;D
I hardly had to do anything on the saturday, but it was a good job I didn't have to as I was also not feeling very well that day (self inflicted) & was in bed by 9.30 pm. :(
Well done also to Nigel, Jean & the other organisers for a very well run event.
Thanks
Keith :)

I must echo Jean's remarks - Nige will be sadly missed on the admin desk next year!!! Well done Jean, you must have been worn out though as you did not attend the disco til well after 11 on the Saturday night and were sadly missed by the handbag on the dance floor!!! (and me of course) but i think we made up for it in the end!!
Absolutely brilliant weekend as usual (my personal favourite bar billiard event of the year).
A big thank you also to Eric for arranging the accommodation but it must be my turn for a nice room next year!! (not that it wasn't nice just a bit small to host our famous parties)!! Maybe that was done on purpose as Eric was on same floor as us!!!
My partner and I were delighted to reach the semi finals especially as he was searching the hotel for me at 9.45am on Sunday (i was hiding in my bathroom) - had to be done!!! Love you lots Mal x x x

Just like to add my congrats to Keith & Ray on their supurb win in Bournemouth. Also to Steven & Pete who made it such a great final.
I want to thank you Nigel for a stirling job of running the open pairs so effortlessly. and you did it with a smile on your face from the very beginning to the very end.
Dissappointing then that you should give up just as you become accumplished as Tournement Director. so a personal thank you from me.
Thanks also to jean for taking the pressure from me by glueing yourself to that seat for the entire weekend. Some say you were there to keep nigel in check. Others say you were there just to make the rest of us look ugly. But i know you were there just to rummage through db's box. May you never know the truth behind your theories.
Thanks to Eric for the organisation of the entire weekend and for the support and encouragement he gave. And special thanks to Dave Burn and the Queens Hotel for a wonderful weekend.
And last but not least. Thank you to everyone who attended the weekend. If would not be so good if you were not there. So I applaud and thank each and every one of you.

Look out for it at the other opens it is slightly darker varnish than on the other tables From what I remember its also an old style table as well so its like they say the "older the better" is certainly true in this case. I know the table well but maybe its something about being table 4 as it was the same number in the Oxford Open - spooky ;D ;D ;D ;D
