The Dover and Deal League specially prepared Finals Night tables come out for their annual outing this evening.
New (old) venue is the function room at the Alma now that there is once again a table in the pub.
A changing of the guard occurring? This is the first time in thirty years that neither of Chris Saville or Mike Callanan will be playing on finals night. The good news is that the Open Singles title will have a new name to go on it at the end of this evening.

19:45hrs Table One: Mixed Pairs final - Vonnie Ryan & Derek Latham vs Coco King & Tim Bourner
Table Two: Division Two - Paul Giles vs Martin Lillywhite
Table Three: Alternate Rules - Mark Graves vs Neville Potts
20:45hrs Table Two: Open Singles - Mark Graves vs Derek Latham

Very competitive finals night with tables playing excellently and a tremendous number of last ball finishes. Open singles champion for the first time is Derek Latham a 2 - 0 winner over Mark Graves who also lost the Alternate (triangle) Rules final to Neville Potts despite a 1400 break in the first leg. Ladies Singles went to Ann Keen for the twenty fourth time! Mixed pairs went to several attempts at the final ball of the deciding leg with Derek Latham finally potting it to take the title with Vonnie Ryan. Division 2 singles for the first time went to Paul Giles on the deciding leg of three last ball finishes, Paul getting the 200 hole in each of his winning legs! never seen that before! Open Pairs went to Tim Bourner and Wack Sampson beating Derek Latham and Craig Carlson 2 - 0, Wack playing two superb legs. Ann Keen completed the double, taking the Ladies' Pairs with Myrna Carlson. Especially nice to see the league President Dave Carliell there after a lengthy period of illness. Another first for many years, I sat and drank Harveys all evening (sitting, not the Harveys ) and put the toys away when everyone else had finished playing (with lots of help thanks). Now to get the tables out of the car The two finals night tables will now be rotated with the Red Cow (cloth damage) and Fleur A (badly sun bleached) tables which will be prepared for next years finals.
