Should it be off-the-spot???
My comments are in the missing rule thread.

I do not think it should be off the spot, the whole point of the game was to encourage youngsters, beginners and lesser standard players to enter and give them a chance. Off the spot goes totally against that theory. It should not be a practice for Jersey, players have 100's of spare evenings when they can practice without using the 'D', why pick the one event of the year that others may get a chance of winning. Many if not most leagues have 'Off the Spot' comps anyway.

Any more thoughts on whether triangles should be off-the-spot or not before I put this one to bed??

I thought of this type of format years and years ago, when it became a 'game ' i was amazed that it was off the spot, my idea was to make sure that the break off was earnt by getting rid of the balls first, very unlikely that the player starting the leg would clear all at first attempt, the winner in my mind was the one who got the break back first (in theory)I always envisaged that it would be 'anywhere in the D' just like snooker :D

I have not had the pleasure of playing this version of BB but imagine that it would be better for the reasons mentioned above to use the D as usual and leave the 'Off the spot' principle to those that play it without the triangle already.

Should it be off the spot?? YES! Its purpose is to get the lesser players to learn the 'Angles' and also to bring the 'Top Players' down to their level of play. Its also fun watching 'Top Players' lose to the mere mortals of our game.

Hi Dave,
Welcome aboard!!!
My feeling was that the addition of the triangle accomlished the levelling of the game. The off-the-spot just made it more difficult again for the average players.

Hi Dave
Welcome to the board (sorry Sav couldn't resist the play on words ;D)
The way it was explained to me, agrees with what Sav said, that playing off the spot increases the difficulty for average to lower level players.
