This was absolutely fantastic !
.......although ears still hurting from the cannon fire in the battle enactment. The Sultans Sirens were another highlight for me (mesmerising belly-dancers). And some amusing banter from Henry the Heartless as he got his whole body through a tennis racquet. Great medieval music and costumes, and everyone seemingly enjoying themselves, adults and kids alike.
Held at Newpound Common, a mile further on from the Bat and Ball. Looking forward to next year already.

Looks as if this is on again, for 2020, 1/2 and 8/9 August:
Turns out I suffered a perforated eardum last year (just about recovered now), so taking cotton wool with me for the battle this year ....

Now completely cancelled for 2020.
Suit of armour goes back into mothballs, but at least my eardrums have another year to recover.
2021 event will take place 7th, 8th, 14th and 15th August.

Another great event although it was a sweltering hot day and I arrived home feeling absolutely knackered ! Highlights: - Mediaeval Babes on the Woodland stage - some interesting instrumental accompaniments which include Hurdy Gurdy and Irish Bagpipes.
- The jousts - audience participation whipping things up to a frenzy.
- Various stalls selling trinkets, armour bits, nick-knacks, drinking horns etc.
- Display of falconry - owl and kestrel, although the kestrel's attention kept being diverted by picking off grasshoppers.
- Other stalls selling anything from mead to ice-creams, pizza to hogroast.
- The Sultan's Sirens (display of belly-dancing, the prettiest one doesn't seem to have aged a day or put on an ounce of weight in three years !)
- Battle re-enactment - cannon fire, arrows fired, hand-to-hand combat. The cannon caught many unawares, one little lad was grateful for the donation of my spare ball of cotton wool.
Looking forward to more of the same in a year's time.
