A nice easy one on capital cities.
Believe it or not, these are all capital cities in Europe. Name the country they belong to.
1. Minsk 2. Sarajevo 3. Zagreb 4. Tallinn 5. Riga 6. Vaduz 7. Vilnius 8. Skopje 9. Chisinau 10. Bratislava 11. Ljubljana 12. Kiev
And for a bonus point, name the northernmost and the southernmost (half for each). Good luck !

Didn't notice that bonus - Reykjavik, Iceland is Europe's most northerly. Most southerly - should be Nicosia, Cyprus, followed by Valletta, Malta.

Right, here's an example of how the quiz-master should take more care to be explicit in his questioning ! What I meant was, name the northernmost and the southernmost of the ones mentioned !! But your answer falls within the framework of the quiz and can be considered as a serious one, so well done that's another to you. The original bonus point is still up for grabs, though.
And your answer has prompted another question from me that has been bugging me for a while...........Why are Israel allowed to take part in the Eurovision Song Contest, when technically Israel is in Asia and not Europe? Another bonus point for a serious credible answer.

Another bonus point for a serious credible answer. Because (for some strange reason) everyone feels sorry for them and they have lots of money to pump into the contest..... cynical but true! Tony

Why are Israel allowed to take part in the Eurovision Song Contest, when technically Israel is in Asia and not Europe? The Eurovision song contest is run under the auspices of a body called the EBU, which is an association of broadcasters primarily, but not exclusively, European. Presumably Israel is a member of this association, hence their participation. On a separate note, Israel's international football team competes in the European sections of World Cup qualifiers, and their clubs play in European Champions league. They are members of UEFA rather than the Asian equivalent for security reasons, as games with their geographical neighbours simply won't happen.

Seem to remember Morocco having taken part in the Eurovision in the past, so the geographical area is quite loose. Also (aside from the obvious problems Israel has with its neighbours), culturally Israel is more European, as virtually all its non-Arab population arrived there from Europe and North America within the last 100 years.
Uefa have now accepted Kazakhstan, so Israel have company from Asia there now.
Don't anyone mention golf's PGA European Tour.

All credible explanations from Barbelman, Mark and Craig, so one point to each. The last quiz point proper to Barbelman also for Tallinn and Skopje.
So it ended: 1. CraigC 14pts 2. Barbelman 2pts 3. Mark J 1pt
Yes Israel are a 'western' nation, with many migrants to the religious headquarters when the state was formed in 1948.
But if it has so much to offer economically, why have we not welcomed it into the EEC so it can contribute for the common good ? And as our entertainment industry is more or less run by its nationals, you would think that they could put a decent entry into the Song Contest, yet year after year its some nationalistic folk ballad and you think, what's the point ?
