Open Golf Quiz
Keep your heads still and eye firmly on the ball for this one, and make sure you have a nice smooth delivery with a perfect wrist action - and a good follow-through. We don't want any topping or slicing, now do we ?
1. When and where was the first British Open - played over 12 holes - staged ?
2. Which two dignitaries inspired the event ?
3. Describe the original Open trophy that was first awarded.
4. What was the first prize money to be awarded ?
5. The 1874 Open was declared 'open to the whole world' - How many golfers actually took up the invitation ?
6. Who was awarded the first trophy outright, upon recording his third successive Open title in 1870 ?
7. In which year was the present trophy, a beautiful hand-crafted silver claret jug, first contested ?
8. Which was the first English venue to host the tournament, in 1894 ?
9. Who became the first overseas champion when he won the title in 1907 ?
10. Which nationality had every Open winner between 1924 and 1933 ?
11. Which two players captured four titles each in a 10-year period from 1949 ?
12. Who became the first Scot since James Braid - way back in 1910 - to add his name to the silver claret jug.
Each question brings one point if answered correctly. First one back in the clubhouse buys the drinks. Good luck !

Well done lads, this one nearly killed off straight away. Nine of Wolfman's ten answers are totally correct, the other one(number 9) just gets half-a-point for the moment as I would like to know the nationality. And Petem picks up a point for Sandy Lyle.
Leaderboard:
1. Wolfman 9.5pts 2. Petem 1pt
Q5 and half of Q9 the only ones left to answer...

Glad to see there was a question about Sandwich in there. Can I be more specific and say Royal St Georges for 8?

I think that is worth 0.5 as a bonus, especially as it's on my quiz sheet and I don't need to go scurrying off to check it out. ;)
Final placings: 1. Wolfman 10pts 2. Petem 1pt 3. CraigC 0.5pts
