Tommo takes this further opportunity to combine two of his favourite hobbies - religion and architecture !
Cathedrals III Quiz - World's tallest.
1.
This, at 689ft(200m) is the world's tallest religious building (Wesleyan chapels on the top floor of New York skyscrapers don't count !) (Half-point each for its title, city and country).
2.
This is the world's largest Christian church by volume, and stands tall at 518ft(158m). Half-point each for its title, city and country. A further half-point if you can name the famous building on which it is modelled - at 435ft the world's tenth tallest - and which it now exceeds.
3.
This is the (undisputed) world's tallest cathedral at 530ft(161.5m) to the tip of its spire.
(Half-point each for city and country).
4.
Although now only the world's third tallest cathedral/basilica (it was the tallest between 1880 and 1884), this one with its twin towers of 516ft(157m) has the largest facade of any. (Half-point each for city and country).
5.
These two massive cathedrals are both in France - the first one being the world's fourth tallest at 495ft(151m) and the other not far behind at 472ft. Half-point each for naming cities and half-point for naming to whom they are dedicated.
6.
This one, also in France, was once taller than the others at 502ft(153m) but its central tower collapsed in 1573 and was never rebuilt. It still lays claim though to the highest church ceiling (at 48m) in the world. Half-point for naming it, half-point for naming its dedication.
7.
These two Austrian cathedrals at 449ft and 440ft are the seventh and eighth tallest cathedrals in the world (our own tallest, Salisbury is 404ft to give you some idea). Half-point each for their title, half-point each for their city.
8.
One city holds claim to three of the world's eleven tallest cathedrals/churches in its skyline - the 5th (483ft), the 9th (436ft) and the eleventh (433ft). One half-point for each of the three named, and half-point for the city.
9.
This was once, at 520ft, the tallest building in the world - until its spire fell in 1625. Half-point each for its name, city and country. Extra bonus point for selected extra information on its folklore.
10.
This one is due to surpass the lot, with a planned elevation to 564ft(172m). Half-point each for its name; city; country; scheduled year of completion; the final tally of spires it will have; and the famous architect responsible for the design.
Good luck ! - and - oh no - another one to follow !
