Dear friends,
I hope you are all keeping well given the current, very challenging circumstances.
It seems that we are all watching with concern the events unfolding around the world as a result of the Coronavirus outbreak. It has already impacted so many and is set to have a significant effect on so many more. The inconvenience to our association seems insignificant in comparison.
However, being both an inclusive and proactive association, we wanted to ensure that everyone is aware of how we plan to proceed during the next period of uncertainty and offer many of us a view of a positive future.
First, we have taken the difficult decision to cancel or postpone all AEBBA events until 20th September at the very earliest. We feel very strongly that this is in the best interest of our members and their loved ones. We fully expect this to be a temporary measure. Prior to any resumption of events, we will be regularly monitoring and taking direction from Public Health England, World Health Organisation and government advice as we are aware that the coronavirus situation is constantly developing. Once it becomes clear that a resumption of activity does not put any member at risk, we will seek to do so.
There are a number of reasons that brought us to this decision but paramount amongst them is both wellbeing of our membership and the risk of further community spread of the virus. COVID-19 concerns aren’t simply about contracting the virus ourselves, but also protecting our most vulnerable community members. Anything less than that is ableism that threatens the lives of others.
We have set out both an optimistic and perhaps more pessimistic timetable for how we will proceed once we are able. The timetable below reflects the current 'optimistic' view.
The principles of the optimistic timetable are:
We will seek to support all counties and associations with rescheduled events
We will only retain the most important AEBBA events in order to accommodate and support county associations
We will seek to provide as many opportunities to play as possible
We will take decisions in support of our overall growth objectives
The full revised schedule can now be seen in the forthcoming events page
What this means:
The Association has taken the difficult but necessary decision to postpone the following events:
The Association has taken the difficult but necessary decision to cancel the following events:
In making the changes above we have worked very hard to strike the best possible balance between retaining the most important events for the national game whilst prioritising the support for county and league associations with alternate dates should they be required. We have freed up a number of weekends to accommodate County Events in order to minimise the disruption to associations and enable them to still hold vital regional events.
Our pessimistic view will not allow for much of the above and so, in this case, we shall cancel all competitions events scheduled for 2020.
The committee will be in regular contact during this enforced shutdown to assess the situation and make amendments to the above plan as appropriate. Above all, once we are able to resume we will be ready and very eager to do so.
In the meantime we would like to urge all members to take care of one another and your families. Stay in touch regularly with your teammates and friends within our Bar Billiards Community. With our social interactions extremely curtailed, make use of technology to stay in touch and keep a close eye on this forum and our website updates to stay informed.
Full details can be found on the COVID-19 advice page and the Forthcoming Events page
With very best wishes,
Lorin
