Good luck ! BONUS QUESTIONS ADDED 04/01/07................... 17. This is also classed as a British cathedral, but is not on the mainland of England, Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland. (1 pt) 18a, b and c - Let's not leave out our friends from north of the border. 1 point for a and b, 2 points for the more obscure c. 19a, b and c - Likewise these three magnificent ones from N/Ireland (don't the first two look similar?) (1 pt for each) 20. Finally, we've already seen three from the Republic on another quiz, but this one's impressive also - for 1pt.

No Ian, Winchester is one of the 40-odd Major cathedrals: They would have been immediately recognisable, so I picked the lesser ones, mostly from metropolitan areas.

Well spotted St Edmundsbury, as it has changed radically in this, the 21st century. Extract here from BBC News article 21st Feb 2003: Cathedral tower project moves forward The new tower should be completed next year. The first phase of a millennium project at the cathedral in Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk has been completed. Work to build a new tower for St Edmundsbury Cathedral started nearly three years ago. The £11m project is funded by the National Lottery and money from a public appeal. The new tower should be completed next year. The Suffolk Cathedral Millennium Project aims to complete the tower, which is the last unfinished Anglican cathedral in England. The nave was built between 1503 and 1551 and altered in the 19th century. The east end was completely rebuilt in 1963-70 but the tower and other works were left unfinished. I would say that 19b is Armargh. I have only driven past it from a distance so have not really seen it close. It looks like it though. It isn't 19a though.

17 - St German or Peel Cathedral
18a Is St mary's in Glasgow. 18b St pauls, Dundee
19a is in Belfast. It's the good one (i.e. the catholic one as opposed.....) I think it is St. Peters but not sure. 19c is in Derry. St Columb's.

First of all, then, my apologies for not having selected this one for question 4) Your answer Birmingham is correct, you could have specified St Philip's though, as it is the Anglican one. To make it up to you, I've now shown St Chads (B'ham) RC Cathedral. I have never won one of these yet. I always seem to get to them too late. But in the marathon I have had a good start to the year. 8 points on this one - 3 or 4 for the other cathedrals quiz and a hatful for the lassies one (I hope!)
