Noting that Sudbury League is on hold till next year, is it safe to assume that there will be no 4 x 4 Tournament this year ?

Tommo, there were plans in place to play the 4x4 this year but the latest restrictions of only groups of six people has put paid to it for now. The 4x4 is now established so it would be both pointless and unfair to drop the number of players per team down from 4 to 3. Plus even then it wouldn't work, the first games great, all groups of 6 players but in the next round of games those groups of 6 would split up and have to intermingle with others which is totally against the guidelines, rules and law. To my knowledge there are no plans to restart the Sudbury league in the near future.
I think the resumption of anything more than the odd friendly games is months away, to be honest I think the plans we have already made for next year's 4 pin in March is very optimistic.
Gut feeling I have is we're heading for another lockdown.

My liver and wallet will say thank you!
If one had a big enough venue, could a team tournament be split into four singles tournaments on four tables where a player plays the player with his number in each of the other teams on the same table? would that be considered covid friendly for six teams? (sanitising allowing, wearing masks and gloves) aggregate team performance wins, no finals.
Still got socially distanced transport there and back problems though.

Thinking further could not travel there together and then mix differently.

To true sav and something I don't think many have considered, if four people travel in one car they should then stay together in their "bubble" they can't then split up and each join other bubbles.

As I said when answering Jean's concerns, we don't really want to push the boundaries. Matches of 3 v 3 are just about defendable if the rozzers burst in on the scene.
Our landlady says, 3 on bench seat parallel to the table (4,5 & 6 in the diagram), 2 players (1 & 2), 1 scorer (3).
Drinks service waitress available if required. Any subs or spectators to remain seated at a discreet distance. One-way system, details including phone number to be taken upon entry.

I believe taking track and trace details is now a legal requirement. We've tried playing and having 2 sets of balls so one set is always clean and ready for the next game, problems are players always put their hand in roughly the same place on the table when playing a shot, and cleaning the ball runs inside the table between games is a non starter, so clean balls are contaminated straight away. All down to individuals, whether you trust your opponent and if you wanna take the risks

Oh Dave at last someone truly understands about the skin and touch !
You are so right immediately you touch the ball if you have COVID you contaminate it through moisture from your skin. Hence ibuprofen gel works as you absorb it in the same way you excrete through the skin as it is porous.
You made my day as this is why ball runs will be infected.

I have been positively challenged 're the above privately.
I can't find the article I read so I totally withdraw the comment. I can find a couple on cuts and abrasions but as my intentions are only about safety I will leave it there as that is some minor research.
I will say though it was totally appropriate in the way I was challenged and I am always willing to and pleased to receive it in that way. I am also adult enough to say when wrong.

You are not really wrong Chris.
The virus is too big to pass through skin, but it will survive on droplets on the surface of the balls and hence the ball runs. Pick up the ball and you have virus on your fingers, put fingers near mouth (or any other orifice) and you have virus in YOU!
if you disinfect the balls and play again immediately then they can still be re-contaminated by the residue in the ball runs and the cycle repeats.
This is all unlikely and probably hypothetical but it could happen....
(Ibuprofen molecule is about 1 nanometer (?) and the virus is about 120 nanometers which is why one will pass through skin and the other won't)
