Good afternoon everyone, hope you are all safe and well.
Just wanted to guage some thoughts from people about the Oxon open next year. As the forms would normally be coming out soon......
If and it's a big IF, things are back to normal by January, would people be interested in entering the open during it's usual slot in mid-Feb or would you prefer to wait to see how things unfold in the world and have it later in the year?

I would enter if and when it is on would hope sooner but will always need to wait and see |

I would think that planning Oxon Open for Feb would be a bit too ambitious. Even if the full lockdown ends 2nd Dec there is talk of things being not back to semi-normal until March. I think I read somewhere that AEBBA considered the Bournemouth Pairs to be a fitting point for resumption.

I all being well would support it Mark but we have put the Sussex competitions back to April instead of January already as we thought January would be a no go, I do think in all honesty later in the year better, but the calender will need to be kept up to date as there will be a back log od postponed events, also some Sundays are taken with local events.

Hi Mark, I will certainly be entering the competition whenever it is played but, realistically, I think it is unlikely that it will be possible to play in February so I would suggest that you have an alternative date lined up to allow for that.

No...too soon and it puts peer pressure on people to play.
It may be an an idea for the AEBBA to not award Ranking Points at all for 2021 to save players feeling they HAVE to play.

Although I agree that it is important that people do not feel pressured into playing before they are comfortable to do so, I would disagree about ranking points not being awarded for those that do wish to play.... players should be entitled to those if they make the choice to enter and support the competitions, especially as Covid concerns are likely to reduce the number of entries. 😢 |

I have provisionally booked in the weekend of 17th July for it to go ahead.

Good Afternoon everyone, Hope we are all safe and well and not too bored  I am still looking to hold the Oxfordshire Open on the weekend of 17/18 July (Could possibly be on the Sunday due to playing cricket on Saturdays in the summer!) As we know, things will hopefully return to normal from 21st June with the announcement coming on 14th June as to whether this date will happen or not. I will make a decision on running the tournament after this announcement. I wanted to put a post to guage how much interest there would be in entering the competition if it goes ahead? There will be some sort of protocols in place, like sanitizer etc. and will look into the exact specifications closer to the time. So, if you could let me know if you would be willing to enter, i can see if there would be the numbers to warrant doing the work to put the tournament on. Thanking you all in advance Mark |

I've always liked the Open on a Saturday due to work on the Monday but now that I've retired I hope it is on the Sunday as I will be on holiday. Being an "ever present" I would come back early to play in this one if everything is o.k regarding covid.

Good evening everyone,
As you will have probably guessed, with the disappointing announcement by the government yesterday, i have no option but to cancel the open for this year.
I may have a look at running it later in the year but with all the AE comps in the Autumn, it is unlikely i will squeeze it in.
Lets all hope things will be back open for the 2022 Oxon Open!
