Hi Everybody
A meeting took place at Southwater SC last Tuesday on the 25th May to discuss the above subject
As a neutral Clive Thompson kindly chaired the meeting and his minutes are attached above
The important parts of these minutes are repeated below
A steering group consisting of myself and Dave Simmons from the BHBBL together with Graham Sparkman, (HBBL Chairman) and Ian Giffen (HBBL League Secretary) to discuss topics like Finance, Trophies, League Rules
Etc etc etc. They will be meeting on Tuesday 15th June, and if necessary a second meeting on Tuesday 29th June
The BHBBL will have an EGM on Wednesday 7th July, and the HBBL will have a similar meeting on the following Tuesday 13th July.
If both of these meetings agree to the merger, the first AGM of the NEW league will take place a few weeks later, either end July or early August
Any feedback from you would be greatly appreciated, especially before the first steering group meeting on the 15th June
Best Wishes
JT
EXTRACTED FROM CLIVE THOMPSON’S MINUTES OF THE ABOVE MEETING
The ‘Pros’ and ‘Cons’ of a possible merger were examined.
Pros:
• Large league, new venues to visit would make it more interesting for all concerned;
• “Stronger together”;
• Combining leagues made relatively easy as Rules are virtually the same;
• Both leagues on same points system and both have adopted the Four Player Rule;
• One committee, one Finals Night (which could alternate between Roffey SSC and Alfold SC)
•
Cons:
• Extra travelling for Horsham teams (NB Alfold SC being the only really long journey);
• Players would have to commit to just one team, whereas some in the past have played for both leagues;
• Four players who play regularly in Redhill Tuesdays and Billingshurst Wednesdays would no longer have that option (but could remain signed on as incidentals)
.
6. Conclusions emanating from this meeting, to comprise recommendations to both Leagues:
• A MERGER BETWEEN THE HORSHAM AND BILLINGSHURST LEAGUES
• BOTH LEAGUES TO CEASE TO EXIST IN THEIR PRESENT FORM
• A NEW LEAGUE TO RISE LIKE A PHOENIX FROM THE ASHES:
• THIS TO BE KNOWN AS THE “HORSHAM AND BILLINGSHURST BAR BILLIARDS LEAGUE”
• ASSETS TO BE POOLED TOGETHER (FINANCES AND TROPHIES)
• THE NEW LEAGUE TO BE PLAYED ON TUESDAY NIGHTS, 2 DIVISIONS, ALL-PLAY-ALL
• A WORKING PARTY TO BE APPOINTED TO COLLATE RULES AND LOOK INTO FINANCES
