Hi Everybody
I hope that you are all well and COVID free, and with the current restrictions being lifted it is the time to start thinking about playing bar billiards again
As some of you probably know over the past few weeks there have been discussions between BHBBL and HBBL about combining the two leagues
It will mean that due to numbers the matches of the new league will be played on Tuesday nights
By playing on Tuesday nights it will mean that we loose about four players who play Redhill league on Tuesday nights, but there are about 15 players that play for a HBBL team on Tuesday nights, but play in the Mid Sussex league on Wednesday nights. Of course I am assuming that these four players will wish to play in the Redhill league, and that the Redhill league does restart. So by combining the leagues and by playing on Tuesday nights we gain about a dozen players which is two teams
It is estimated that a league of about ten to twelve teams can be created
If BHBBL stayed separate, we have lost two teams The Windmill Littleworth and The White Hart Cranleigh, leaving us with seven teams, whilst by loosing the Windmill Littleworth the HBBL League will only have six teams
Below I have made assumptions on the current situation, please let me know if I am WRONG
HBBL will supply four teams Roffey Cricket Club, The Plough Lower Beeding, The Windmill Crawley, and Roffey SSC H team
BHBBL will hopefully supply the following teams
The Lintot, although Jim Balchin plays in the Redhill league, and Brian Marten will probably play for the Plough Lower Beeding, three of the White Hart team will join me and Tony Clasby
The Blue Ship, although they have lost their table, they will play at the Mucky Duck, Tismans Common
The Limeburners, although they have also lost their table they hope to play at the Cricketers Wisborough Green, but they need at least one more player
Both the Railway and Alfold SC should be able to enter teams, and are willing to have a second team if a venue is needed
Southwater SC, with the demise of the Windmill Littleworth, where some of their Wednesday team played on Tuesdays, all their Wednesday team should be available
Roffey SSC should be able to raise a team from their other players, excluding the Tuesday Roffey H team
So I have arranged to use the Gordon Luff room at Roffey SSC on Wednesday 21st July for an EGM to discuss and vote on this merger
It is by far the most important meeting in the ten years that I have been secretary and I would like to see as many people attending as possible, with every team being represented.
As a Steering Group, myself and Dave Simmons are meeting Graham Sparkman and Ian Giffen of HBBL next Tuesday to finalise the process of forming a new league
After that I will send you all an agenda together with any necessary attachments
Please let me have any of your comments, especially about my assumptions of the current state of BHBBL teams
Keep Safe
