The boundaries of the UK’s traditional counties were redrawn in 1974 and 1975 (by Harold Wilson’s newly-elected Labour Government) – “for administration purposes”. The new counties were regarded as artificial by many people and the traditional names continue to be widely used. Some like Avon have since been abolished and some like Salop have since reverted back to their original names. In an attempt at justification, the 1974 Act stated “the new county councils are solely for the purpose of defining areas of first-level government of the future: they are administration areas and will not alter the traditional boundaries”. Anyway, these are all Districts – with their own Councils – within administrative counties of England. The question is – WHERE ?
Thirty years have passed, and although I could draw you a map of England with all the counties in from memory and mark in most of the major towns, I still wouldn’t be able to tell you where half of these Districts are situated.
So here’s the second and last lot of 30, and you can earn 1pt for naming the County boundary within which they lie, and 1pt for any of main towns covered by the District. Complicated ? You bet !

Okay, ready now to conclude this one. 31. Blackpool has its own borough council. You could have had Poulton-le-Fylde, Fleetwood or Thornton Cleveleys. 40. Worksop you already had correctly in Bassetlaw. But you have retrieved it with Beeston for 1pt. Could also have had Stapleford or Eastwood. 41. Nottingham of course has its own City Council. Besides Arnold you could have had Carlton (a Nottingham suburb). 45. Again, Ipswich is a neighbouring district in its own right; I was looking for Hadleigh or Sudbury. 46. Bury St Edmunds has its own district St Edmundsbury: Newmarket, Mildenhall or Brandon would have been correct. 49. Weybridge is actually part of Elmbridge District Council. But you retrieved it with Addlestone for 1pt. Could also have had Chertsey, Virginia Water or Egham.
So quiz closed with the result: [glow=red,2,300]Wolfman 57 pts [/glow]
