Hi everyone
Due to recent announcements, I can confirm that the following AEBBA competitions are going to hopefully go ahead in Sept/October 2021
12th September- County Champs Div 1
19th September- County Champs Div 2
3rd October - Mixed Pairs, Special Ladies, Over 50's
15 - 17 October - British Isles Pairs - Bournemouth
24th October - AEBBA Off The Spot
Entries for Bournemouth have already been taken. I will be posting threads on proboards to take entries for the other competitions. These are to be held at Totteridge.
For these competitions to happen, assistance will be required on these weekends to ensure tables are put in place and setup, and taken down at the end of the day. In the past, as we know, we were very lucky in that Dave Alder did a majority of this work aided by Lorin Clough in the last couple of years. Bournemouth, I am not so worried about, it is the Totteridge competitions that assistance will be required.
We are now not in this position so will have to have volunteers for each event to either arrive early (probably 8am-9am for an event starting at 11.30am) or the night before to help setup (I need to check with Jean if that is possible). As tournament director I have only agreed to run the competitions, I am happy this year to arrange to be there to help setup for each weekend but certainly wont be able to do it on my own – and heavy lifting is not my forte . Jean has agreed to be AEBBA secretary this year but can not be expected to be at each event and also to be involved in setting up (she has done enough work with arranging the venue, where the tables need to go etc etc!). We also cannot expect people at Bucks (eg Dawn & Ernie) to do all this work for us, just because these events are being held in Totteridge.
If you can help, if it be just for one of the events above, message me and I can begin to try to form a plan as to what we will do and how it will work. In some ways the pandemic has helped us here in that we have a restricted program and we can see if we can manage this post Dave Alder’s retirement as we would have had this issue anyway last year.
If we want AEBBA competitions in future it will be a case of members helping where they can, it just can’t fall on to AEBBA committee members who have not signed on to table delivery/ setting up as part of their roles on the AEBBA. If I do not feel that enough help has been offered I would regrettably have to cancel one or all of these competitions, which I do not want to do, and if that is the outcome I would seriously question whether these competitions could go ahead each year.
