Hi Everybody
Please see the minutes of the EGM and AGM held on Wednesday 21st July at Roffey SSC
Please note that the league of at least eight teams is possibly reduced to only six teams, with both Southwater Sc and The Lintot loosing their tables
Hopefully there is enough teams left to play, the start of the season will be Wednesday 13th October
Best Wishes

BILLINGSHURST BAR BILLIARDS LEAGUE
Minutes of the Extraordinary General Meeting, held at Roffey SSC on Wednesday 21st July 2021
Those present: Steve Eely, John Tidy, Dick and Lee Cable, John Slee, Bill Hammond, Brian Goodchild, Dave Sands. Ding and Mick Johnson, Malcolm Greening, Lin Lennon, Steve and Roz Holden, Pete Fisher, Tony Temple, Clive and Margo Thompson,Dave Slater and Scott Hope
Apologies for absence: Chip Sawyer, Dave Simmons, Colin Bolton, Barry Lawson,Tony Clasby, Dick Dewdney and Trevor Goacher
Meeting opened 8.00pm by the Chairman who welcomed Members to the Meeting.
The Secretary then started to outline the case for merging BHBBL and HBBL but it was not long before he realised that the attendees would not vote for a merger
The reasons can be summarised as follows:
With eight definite teams, there can be enough matches to have a good season
The floor liked playing on Wednesday nights, liked the friendly way the league was organised, and finally liked the good spirit in which all of the matches were played
Finally all attendees expressed a wish that the league secretary would continue to run the league in his chaotic but efficient way
So the chairman called for a vote on “NO” and at least 15 of the 20 attendees raised their hands. The secretary admitted that he was surprised at the general feeling against the merger amongst the attendees.
The meeting felt that the Steering Group who were tasked with producing everything for the EGM's and a set of rules for the new league could not have done anymore having produced a viable proposal for the merger, together with a decent set of rules
The deciding factor in voting against the merger was having eight definite BHBBL teams
The BHBBL as a league wished Graham Sparkman and Ian Giffen of the HBBL the best of luck for their AGM on Tuesday
So the Chairman closed the EGM meeting and welcomed the same people to the 54th AGM of the Billingshurst Bar Billiards League
BILLINGSHURST BAR BILLIARDS LEAGUE
Minutes of the 54th AGM, held at Roffey SSC on Wednesday 21st July 2021
The Statement of Accounts, which were available on the night, were discussed.
The closing Bank balance was £997.31
The treasurer stated that the balance was higher than usual because the March 2020 lockdown happened before any engraving was completed, or before any personal trophies had been ordered
He estimated that about £200.00 of the balance would be required to complete this engraving
Before the first Committee Meeting the treasurer will produce an estimate for the finances of the new season
He also confirmed that the bank balance was supported by the latest bank statement. This balance was checked by John Slee
It was proposed by Lin Lennon and seconded by Dave Sands that the Accounts should be accepted, put to the vote, and carried.
A draw was made for the Chairman's raffle for tickets sold during the 2019-20 season before the COVID termination on the 15th March 2020
There were three prizes of £50.00 cash which went to:
1) Tony Clasby of the Lintot
2) Bill Hammond of the Limeburners/Cricketers
3) Brian Goodchild of the Limeburners/Cricketers
Election of Officers for 2021/22
COMMITTEE FOR THE SEASON 2021/2022
President: C Sawyer
Life Vice-Presidents: A.Temple, L Lennon, and P Gibbs
Chairman: S.Eely
Vice Chairman: D Simmons
Hon.Sec & Treasurer: J Tidy
Governing Committee of playing Members
D Johnson, D Sands, T Goacher, C Bolton, and J Slee
It was proposed by Clive Thompson that in recognition of fifty years playing Bar Billiards in the BHBBL that Lin Lennon be made a vice president, this was seconded by John Tidy
Ding Johnson and John Slee volunteered to join the Committee as Playing members replacing Lin Lennon and Mick Clack who were both standing down
In the confusion of the night, nobody was asked to propose or second the en-bloc vote, and there was no show of hands
BHBBL Teams
The Eight definite teams are:
Roffey SSC, Southwater SC, The Lintot, The Railway, The Mucky Duck, The Cricketers Wisborough Green, Windmill Gossops Green, and finally Alfold SC
I have just heard that Southwater SC and the Lintot no longer have a table
Also Enquiries are been made with the Stout House about forming a team, and with the White Hart Cranleigh folding, and with Springbok Club folding a year earlier Malcolm Greening is going to investigate as to whether there is enough interest and players to form a second team at Alfold SC
League Format
The secretary suggested that due to the uncertainty of COVID in the coming year, that the completion of the league matches, together with Team Cup matches would take precedent over Individual Competitions
Individual Competitions can be played later in the season, or possibly during the early summer months
8 Teams
All teams play home and away, then Team Cup First Round matches, followed by the Team Cup Semi Finals
Finally the top four teams will play each other again home and away, with the bottom four teams doing likewise.
This split will form the first and second divisions for future seasons
So this means a total of twenty league matches, and two team cup matches to reach the four teams that will play in the two team cup finals
9 or 10 Teams
All teams play home and away, then Team Cup First Round matches, followed by Team Cup Group Stage matches lasting five weeks
So this means a total of eighteen league matches, and six team cup weeks to reach the four teams that will play in the two team cup finals
League Fees
If there are 8 teams in the league the fee will be £40.00 per team, but if there are 10 or more teams the league fee can stay at its present £35.00 per team
Individual Competitions
As stated above, for this season, Individual competitions will not take place until all the league and team cup matches have been played
Also if there is the demand the secretary is happy to run these competitions during the close season May to July
Finally because the competitions were not completed for the 2019-2020 season those players that entered the competitions that year will have free entry this year.
Other entries will be charged the £1.50 standard entry fee per person
The meeting was closed at about 9.00pm
