Despite the impact of Covid the new Guernsey season league got underway last night (14/09/21). One of the entrants is currently in isolation as he was tested positive positive to Covid. As the new league is singles it meant only one match will need to be rarranged.
In match 1 held at the Happy Landings division 1 players Matt Wilcox went to battle with Normana wilkinson. Both players showed rusteness and although Norman walked away with 3 points both will be looking for some improvement as the weeks progress. In the first game Matt scored 1960 and Norman pipped him with 2440. Game 2 was also a low scoring affair as Norman scored 1760, however Matt had black pegged during the game and ended with Zero.
Match 2 was a second division match between the more experiend Darren Pipet and new commer Carla Allen. Darren took all 3 points with scores of 1340 and 1940 v Carla of 270 and 980. Carla improved during the 2 games and i see that she will get better and is likley to reap some revenge on Darren when they meet again later in the season.
Match 3 between 2 new players Kerrie Totty and Blake Batiste. Both were obviously nervous which contributed to the excitement of the game even dispite the low scoring. Blake lead for most the match and with the bar dropped he still held a sleander lead. However Kerrie was playing steady and picked off the last few balls. Trailing by 270 she put the red and final ball straigt straight into the 200 and win by 70. Game 2 was every bit as exciting with kerrie scoring just 470 points however Blake only 540 and with the last ball, who would have the nerve to putt and secure the win. Well it was neither of them and after 5 attempts each the game ended therefore meaning that they too a point each and a half each as they finsihed with the same scores.

Week 1 games held at the Mariners.
Ian Champion met Bob Chapple in match 1. Well known as 2 heavy weights in Guernsey Barbilliards these 2 normal partners in the pairs faced off in the venue at the mariners. Ian with the first break scored 7580 and sets the first highest break of the season a target i am sure will be beaten in the coming weeks. Bob Chapple then played out the remainder of the time with 4480, with his break to come. Bob Managed a narrow win in the second game with 5190 v Ian 5920. Therefore Ian took the aggregate score point to win 2-1.
Match 2
Steve Carre returned to the game from a short break to meet new comer Claire Gauvain. Steve took all 3 points with scores of 1570 and 2230. Claire strruggled scoring 370 in game and dispite improving in game 2 she black pegged to end up with zero.
Match 3
This was always going to be a tight match between father and son Mat Ogier and Ben Wilding.Ben Lead off well winning the first game comfortable with 4670 v 450 to his dad. Mat and experinced player with a number of Island caps would of been confident to take the second game and the aggregate score, however the Ben had other ideas and piped the second game 3830 to 3760 to take all 3 points.
Match 4
We were expecting a tight game as we welcomed Back star of BBC radio John Randall who hasnt played for a number years as he took on the relative new comer Adrian Bush.
John took the first game with 1690 v 720 points. However Bushy was able to bounce back in the second game and also claim the extra aggregate point.

Week 1 games held at the Hampshire
Match 1
2 former island players met for the first time in a number of years and with Paul Dyer narrowly missing out in the island singles final recently he would of been the favorite against Paul Le Gallez. Paul though set off well in the 1st game and set a score that Mr Dyer was unable to catch with 3720 v 2330. Game Mr Dyer would be looking to at least match Paul Le G first game score and if possible pass it to set up a good chance of for the etra point. He managed this with 4110 and Paul Le only coming back with 1150.
Match 2
2 more new commers to the league got their season under way where Mike Bichard Beat Shaun Lihou. Shaun was unable to keep any scores during the first game after a number of knocked over pegs and score 100 points with the last Ball and Mike scoring 720. The second game was much improved affair with Mike also taking the second game with 1940 v 920.
Match 3
2 of the current Island team met on day 1 with Roy Le Page taking on 5 times World champion and current Guernsey singles champion Trevor Gallienne.Roy was a comfortable winner in game 1 with 6170 v 2830. But with Trevor break to come it was never going to be enough for the extar point. Trevor broke with just over 7000 points and Roy was unable to muster much, Trevor went on to win with 9000 v 890.
Match 4
Another 2 new players kicked their seaosn off with Luke Bush winning both games v Chris Bourgaize.
In the first game luke scored 1190 to chris 440 and in game 2 luke scored 1500 with Chris scoring 440 points again.

Week 2 if the Guersney Barbilliards Singles
Highlight of the week was the vast improvement in play from Claire Gauvain and Carla Allen. Playing on the super fast top at the West Legion these 2 went head to head. With Claire Gauvain looking for her first points of the campaign. Claire really struggled the week before, however on this occasion she was scoring 100's and 200's for fun. She took and ealy lead in game 1 with a respecival break of 1020, however Carla Pegged her back with the highest break in div 2 to date with 1260 and take game 1. Claire though was able to continue her good form to pinch the second game and win 2-1 4830 to 4270.
Former team mates and island players Roy Le page also met at the West Legion but their game was no match to the excitement of Claire and Carla. Despite Darren having the opening break Roy Led for the majority of the game before Darren managed to build a score to over take Roy winning 2800 v 2160 . Roy did have his Chance to win but missed and lost some vital scores in the closing minutes. In Game 2 Roy had an awful start and left the balls in horible positions and made it difficult to get the break back. Darren manage to take and early lead however Roy managed to compose himself to play out the remainder of the table to win 6590 v 1240 and take the 2-1 win. In the match between Bob Chapple and Nroman wilkinson Bob chapple walked away with all 3 points in a one sided affair. game 1 bob won 9330 v 2100 and in game 2 won 11250 v 2490. Bob now has the leading Div 1 break of the season with 7900.
It was good to see the young Leon Ogier return after isolation from being positive Covid victim. However he may of wished he took another week to recover as he lost 3-0 twice firstlly to Matt WIlcox. Matt scoring 1360 and 2060 to Leons 720 and 0. He then went on to lose to his vasty more experience brother Darren. Darren showed no mercy for his suffering younger sibling. Despite having the break Leon was unable to keep any score and Darren ran away with a 6170 v 0 win. In Game 2 Darren had the break and with a number of small breaks ran up a score of 10,390 v 100
Div 2 Blake Batiste was slightly fortunate to win both games v Chris Borgaize. With Chris losing a break of over 1300. Blake won the first 1030 v 430 and the second 740 v 490.
After a 20 year break John Randall is starting to show some glimpses of his former self. However Darren Pipet managed to PIP him on the aggregate score by just 120 points. Darren took the first game 1580 v John 1130, John though came back in the second winning 1840 v 1510.
Gallienne takes all 3 points in clash with Le Gallez. Paul still showing a bit of rusteness from not playing seriously the past few years was always going to find it tough going against the Magnificent Gallienne. Trevor winning 2840 v 480 and 8500 v 940.
Adrian Bush beats newcomer in tight opening game 1560 v 1390 against the breaks to set up a 3-0 win winning game 2 1580v 630.
Ian Champion grabs a late point as Paul Dyer domintes proceedings at the Ex servicemens club. Paul was comfortable winner in Game 1 with 10,480 v 0. Paul also started off well in game 2 leading with over 3,000 before Ian came back with a 4500 break and win 4680 v 3740.
Young Luke Bush scored a nice 2 - 1 victory over Steve Carre. Luke took a comfortable win in the first game 1190 v 80, Steve came back in the second winning 1210 v 870 but luke took the aggregate points.

Guernsey Bar billiard report This week’s complement of bar billiard matches was almost back to normal following the previous 2 weeks of disruption due to covid, with 10 of the 11 scheduled matches plus 3 rearranged matches being completed. Luke Bush has emerged as the runaway leader in the second division after taking all 3 points from his match against Carla Allen when he recorded a score of 3560 – 2030, over both legs to give him an 8 point advantage at the top of the table His father Adrian Bush occupies the runner up spot after recording a 2-1 points win over Chris Bourgaize with a combined score of 4200 – 3340 John Randall moves into third spot when he took all 3 points in his match against Mike Bichard with a combined score of 2430 – 0, however Bichard can consider himself unlucky not to have at least taken one of those points after black pegging with the final ball in the first leg and doing exactly the same thing in the second leg, as he said after the match “if it wasn’t for bad luck, he wouldn’t have had any luck” Claire Gauvain had mixed fortunes when she beat Kerrie Totty 3 – 0 in her catch up match and then lost by the same margin to Blake Batiste Bob Chapple closed the gap on Trevor Gallienne and now only remains in second place due to accumulated score difference when he beat bottom place Norman Wilkinson 3-0 with a score of 16140 – 3550. The two lead the way with 33 points each although Trevor has a match in hand Darren Ogier took the majority points when he won 2 – 1 in his match against Roy Le Page, after defeating the latter 8650 – 4960, it was not all plain sailing for Ogier though, as after losing the first leg 4690 – 90 he came back strongly to open the second leg with a break of 8500 points to add the aggregate point to his tally. Ogier’s younger brother Leon took all 3 points in his match against Matt Wilcox with a combined score of 9810 – 1350 The Ogier brothers, father, Geoff Ogier once again failed to emulate his two sons expertise when he went down 2-1 to Ben Wilding, however it was due to the superior play of Wilding who after losing the first leg 6270 – 3230 went on to take the second leg and the aggregate point with 6310 – 540 making a total over both legs of 9540 – 6810 The final match of the night between Diddy Dyer and Ian Champion resulted in a close 2 – 1 win for Dyer with a score of 10110 – 9470

Guernsey Bar Billiard report 16th March
With only 2 matches plus any individual rearranged matches to play in the first division Trevor Gallienne continues to head the table after beating former runner up Bob Chapple 2-1 with scores of 12910 – 8820 to relegate Chapple to third place. Ian Champion moved into the vacant runner-up spot after defeating Ben Wilding 3 – 0 with 18670 – 4680 points, however he remains 7 points behind the leader who has a game in hand Diddi Dyer suffered a rare defeat at the hands of Geoff Ogier when he struggled to get the hang of the Hampshire Lodge table in their rearranged match and was beaten 2-1 with scores of 6510 – 5020, over both legs, however he remains in 4th spot. Geoff Ogier then played Roy Le Page in their scheduled match of the week and it was his turn to struggle when Le Page took all three points to defeat him 11260 – 3010 Another player to suffer a 3 – 0 loss was Paul Le Gallez when he was beaten by Matt Ogier 10640 - 4390 Darren Ogier lost 1-2 in his match against Matt Wilcox, the latter recording a fine score of 7670 in the first leg to take the match and the aggregate score over both legs with a total score of 10350 – 4390 The remaining match in the upper division resulted in a 2-1 win for Leon Ogier when he took the majority of the points in his match against Norman Wilkinson with scores of 7860 – 3500 Over both legs. Luke Bush has secured the second division title with two games in hand over the rest of the division after defeating Kerrie Totty 3 – 0 last week with the fantastic score of 13660 – 530 he is the only player to score over 10,000 points in the second division all year and will be a force to be reckoned with when he joins the more experienced players in the upper division Darren pipet remains in the runner up spot despite losing 1-2 to Luke’s father Adrian Bush with a combined score of 2970 – 5070 who has a game in hand over Pipet John Randall finishes his season in third spot after beating Blake Batiste 2-1 in his final match with 2440 – 1520 points , however Blake who still had a match in hand finished his season with a 3-0 win over Mike Bichard with 3560 – 2270 over both legs taking him into 6th place Steve Carre currently sits in 5th place with a 2 – 1 win over Carla Allen and in 7th place Chris Bourgaize took the majority points against Claire Gauvain with a 2 – 1 win

Tuesday 5th April saw the final matches of the 21/22 Guernsey bar billiard season in it’s new format be completed, albeit with a few catchup games for some participants due to the Covid Pandemic, however this didn’t detract from the overall success of the season
As expected Trevor Gallienne took the first division title with games to spare as did Luke Bush in the second division. Gallienne had 2 games at different venues as he looked to catch up on some games. Before hot footing it to the West Legion, Trevor scrapped a 2-1 win over Darren Ogier, where Darren had to recover from 5k down in the last game with just over 6k.
Gallienne looks to finish his season in style, Heading out west he lost the first leg 4400-420 to Geoff Ogier in their catchup game. He then played the table out in the final leg of the final match of the season to win 2 – 1 and record the highest break of the year with a break of 15590
Ian Champion must have been disappointed with Gallienne’s impressive break because in the previous match of the night on the same table, he hoped he had scored enough to win the highest break of the season trophy himself, with a break of 14630 in his match against Matt Wilcox, only to have it beaten by 960 points by Gallienne
Matt Ogier had a busy night when he had to play his scheduled match against Darren Ogier plus two catchup matches against Darren’s younger brother Leon, securing 6 of the 9 points available.
The 2 remaining fixtures in the 1st Division resulted in 2 – 1 wins for both Roy Le Page over Diddy Dyer and Geoff Ogier over Norman Wilkinson
The 2nd Division’s scheduled league fixtures had finished the previous week , however they still had a busy week this week as there were four catchup matches to play, due in part to the Pandemic.
Luke Bush who had already won the division two title 7 points clear of the rest added another 3 points after defeating Steve Carre 3 -0 with scores of 5970 – 1150 over both legs
Kerrie Totty had 3 catchup matches to play, the most notable was against Luke Bush when she inflicted a rare 3 – 0 defeat on the division leader.
Her next two matches resulted in losses when she was beaten 3 -0 and 2 -1 by Steve Carre.
Finals night at the Hampshire Lodge is on 19th April
7 pm Div 2 individual final
7.40pm Pairs Final
9.20pm Handicap Final
