Next week sees the return of this Charity Competition so I thought it would be good to remind you of how it works.
The format is 4 singles & 2 doubles and due to the extra game the match should start at 8.15 pm.
Each player is given a handicap band based on the average from previous season; new players are graded as H grade, then the Tables are assigned a handicap from A to H. These Handicaps are put on the scoreboard at the start of the game.
Please see extract from the rules.
Donations of money to charity, any charity, is a personal decision and cannot be insisted upon by any person or body of people. This is true of the MSBBL Charity Cup where donating is voluntary, not mandatory.
The aim of the competition, the reason it was brought in to being, was to act as a vehicle to raise funds for a charity chosen by the League. At present, the organisation we support is St Peter & St James Hospice, but it doesn’t have to be so, it is the playing members’ choice.
Contributions to the charity pot are your own affair but a rule of thumb that most teams follow is that participants in any match will contribute £1.00 each. This will mean a collection of between £8 and £14 depending on how many players are used by both sides. £5 will be used to pay for the games, the remainder will go into the pot. Additional moneys can be extracted by any legal means to boost the pot.
1. All matches will consist of 4 singles and 2 doubles games requiring a minimum of 4 players per side.
2. The order of play will be 2 singles, 2 doubles, 2 singles.
3. Each opening break will be made by the player representing the away team.
4. Handicapping will be used in all matches.
5. Should a black peg fall during a match the player’s handicap will not be eradicated.
6. In all pool matches, Captains will nominate player(s) prior to each game; the Away Captain will nominate first.
7. Final Pool positions will be decided on individual games won and, if necessary, total aggregate score.
The Semi Finals will be a play off between the top four teams.
Good Luck.
