Excellent my friend, but is Mr Newton's rules applied to our own 'billiard rules'. If so then surely the entire point is mute as if the ball is touching the peg then it would come back!!!!! But then again in the Lewes rules (i could be wrong here, working from memory) if the ball is touching and in FRONT of the peg then the ball is returned to tray!!!

So Lewes have their own rule, over-riding the All-England Rules ! Hopefuly Sav's booklet will soon be published, which should help to dispel a lot of arguments. Points are moot, b.t.w. - unless you are talking about the stereo in Sparky's hire car in Jersey ! ;) ;)

Haha, yes yes I know that there's no f*****g cd, it was an Italian piece o junk and you all know it, now mute off and stick a cd in your own tray!!!!
hahahahahahaha!!!!!!
Only joking mate, not sure if it's an over-riding rule I think it's more to do with playing etiquette and sportsmanship, if the ball is touching and is in front I think that It is deemed unplayable, as the player can't play the ball without fouling, and so returned to tray!!!

Obviously Newton never played in the Lewes league then, he might have explained: From 2 or the 3 laws: 1.Every object in a state of uniform motion tends to remain in that state of motion unless an external force is applied to it. 3. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Or in bar billiard terms the bottom cushion is there to bounce a ball off !!!! :D

Jock do you remember last night in my game the red was touching the right hand peg & I attempted a shot of the back cushion because if I had tried to play to move it with a thin cut it would have definitely knocked the peg over the fact that I pegged it anyway is irrelevant it was a crap shot but the ball stayed put thanks to the scorer so I had to play for it !!!!!!!!! :'( :'( Mr G.

Speak to the likes of KT and Jim Millward and they'll tell you that no shot is impossible. And the shot under discussion is either playable off the back cush, as KP says - or by means of a very fine cut, in accordance with this report from the General board (thread called "What's the best shot you've witnessed?") Mick was chasing a score in the second game. He was on a 6k break with little time left, he needed to bank this and the title would be his. We all gasped as he caught one too thin and left himself a ball slap bang in front of the right hand white peg and touching it. What would you do ? Up and back ? I've seen Sue Mariner do it to perfection but I've also seen loads of other people try and either miss completely or have a peg. With the difference between £350 and £150 riding on it (imagine what that would be in today's money !) Mick made his decision, went staight at it and somehow cut the ball away from the peg, sending the object ball away at right-angles, when such a shot had looked impossible. He banked the score and was a well-received champion. I have never since seen such a stunning or brave shot under pressure, and in such important circumstances.
