A quick teaser ........ in the course of recent investigations (in the National Newspaper Archives) on defunct leagues, I have found several mentions of a Banbury & District League.  Here's a sample:

... Seen taking the final shot which decided the winners of Banbury Bar Billiards League at the Elephant and Castle Friday evening is Mr. “Tally” Bishop. This ball was destined for the centre 100 hole, and down it went clean as a whistle! It was fitting end ...

This comes as no great surprise, as there are several tables still around in the Banbury area, according to the AEBBA Tables Map.
