Quite surprised Jason Neal has not been selected, as in the last two seasons he’s won the Northants Open, won the over 50’s. R/U in the Northants Ooen, Won the Northants 4 Pin open, won the Bournemouth Plate.
Especially in years that not many opens had been played so thought he would really be quite high up in the order.

There wasn’t a selection process this year. We used the players selected for the games in 2020 but didn’t get to play. I’m sure Jason will feature in the discussions when we have a selection committee as usual at the AGM 2022 for games in 2023.

Hi all

Just wanted to put a bit more info out there with regards to the list of comps that Simon has listed above.

Nigel produces a stats list for the year to help us decide our own selections before putting them forward at the selection committee meeting. Out of the 5 listed above only 2 would have made the list. Northants open win and runner-up would definitely be on there but in different years. The overs/4 pin and any plate competition do not make the list for obvious reasons i.e. overs isn't an open to all, wouldn't use 4pin stats to back up selection for a 3 pin comp and I don't see any reason why a plate stat should be included anyway.

Also in my opinion I want my England team to be out there playing in as many comp as possible making the selection committee talk about them. The players who do get picked for England are not there by right but by how they play throughout the year and this can only be achieved by playing in open comps the previous year.

So to anyone who would like to get involved, enter the comps, play well and also get your fair share of luck along the way.

Yep understand completely, but as said ,3 of those would never be part of any discussions around playing for England and I was assuming there may be players out there that also wouldn't know what what was required, so took the opportunity to try and explain.

Talking about Jason specifically -- Does he have the game to play for England ? IMHO I think he does. But he will need to play more opens other than his own/ Bournemouth and counties to get into the side, and do well. This is the same for any player and no one should expect (not that he does) to get in only playing in 3 comps.
I think we can all agree that more players entering more comps is needed and even more so if players have any aspirations about playing for England.

It is often controversial when decisions are made picking these representative teams.
Guernsey are selecting their side based on the current form of those playing in the singles league.
Some of the Guernsey-based players who would have been selected for the 2020 team are no longer playing competitively in the current singles league.

A great performance by the England team last night running out winners by 56-10.
Thanks to all who took part including all who helped to score and my travelling reserve Geoff who was ready to go at a moments notice.

Well done to Stu who after a very uninspiring first shot , pulled himself together to get a 2-1 win on his debut.
The big winner on the night was the fact we are able to keep this fixture going after the uncertainty of the last few years.

I’ll look to post full results during the coming week.
