Chemical compounds Quiz
Some of these have practical use, some are natural formations (says he mysteriously) Only scientists need apply to crack these formulas. 1pt each, possible bonuses.
1 NH3 2 Ca(OH)2 3 MgSO4 4 NaHCO3 5 (NH4)2CO3 6 CaCO3 7 CaO 8 Na3PO4 9 Fe2O3 10 CH4
Good luck !

Well done Scooner for earning the first point. 1) sorry that's wrong, the formula for Nitrous Oxide is N2O. 6) correct for 1pt.

2. Calcium hydroxide. (slaked lime, or hydrated lime.) 3. Magnesium sulfate. (Epsom salt.) 4. Sodium bicarbonate. (baking soda) 5. Ammonium Carbonate (used in the Solvay Process and known as baker's ammonia or smelling salts) 7. Calcium oxide (also known as burnt lime, caustic lime, lime and or quicklime) 8. Trisodium phosphate. ( Or trisodium orthophosphate) TSP 9. Hematite. (Red Iron Oxide, Varieties include kidney ore, martite , iron rose and specularite. It is mined as the main ore of iron. 10. Channel 4 ( or Methane if you prefer, and research is being conducted by Nasa on methane's potential as a rocket fuel.)

Let me see, Jock has so far proved himself to be an expert on Latin, Geography, History and now Science. Is there no end to this man's brilliance ?
Ok, 2) earns 2pts; 3) earns 2pts (in my day they were known as sulphates, now they seem to be sulfates) ; 4) earns 2pts; 5) earns 2pts (also known as Sal Volatile) 7) earns 2pts; 8) earns 2pts; 9) earns 2pts (also the chemical formula for Rust !) and 10) 1pt (the stuff that comes out of a cow's backside ! :o )
No takers for no. 1) ?
Am giving extra point to Scooner for his dual answer to number 6) (could also have said Limestone)

1) is ammonia.
Nitrous Oxide?? Tommo you are forty years out of date!! Nitrogen(I) Oxide.
8) is just sodium phosphate (fertiliser) 9) Ferric Oxide in our language or iron (III) oxide (found in haematite)
7) Chalk, limestone & marble are natural IMPURE forms of calcium carbonate, normally with magnesium carbonate & water in varying degrees.

Sav earns 1pt for Ammonia. Tommo makes no apology for his career as a schoolboy scientist ending in 1964. So forty-three years out of date if you please ! ;D (My younger brother went on to get a degree in physics and chemistry.)
Bonus half-points to Sav for corrective information on 1) 8) and 9) Same for 7) - Sav, I believe the 'impure forms' are shown as such by having H2O following on at the end of their formulae ?
Quiz ended: 1. Sir Jock o'the Strap 15pts 2. Sav 3pts 3. Scooner 2pts
