Well done to Paul Sainsbury on winning the Kent Open, Paul defeated Matt Jones in the final. Nigel Senior won the plate, with Stuart Carruthers finishing as runner up. Paul also took home the high break prize making 23,750
To get to the final Paul had defeated Bob Hall and Matt defeated Joe Oakley
In the final itself Matt was off early, Paul got the balls back and made close to 9k, this gave Matt an opportunity to reduce the deficit which he did, Paul ending with a 2k lead. With Paul's break in the second leg he rarely looked in any trouble making a very solid 10k to give him the title, well done to both players on their performances during the day
In the plate final Stuart was off early, Nigel took a healthy lead into his break game and made sure, well done to both players
Ladies high break went to Jean Brackenridge with 6650
Thank you to Pete Sainsbury for running the day so well, the club for hosting and all those people involved in setting up and taking down the tables, a thankless task. Thank you to those Sussex guys who packed the van for its safe onward journey. The tables were a good mix, each providing a different test

My first Kent Open since 2012 and I found it pleasurable - even with being summarily despatched by England hopeful Jason Neal at the first time of asking. Big thanks to the organisers notably Pete Sainsbury and a nod to those others mentioned by 'Silent' in his customary articulate report.
So while still fresh in the mind, a few of the day's highlights (in no particular order) from me: - Michael Wilson (Surrey's latest find) matching Simon Coleman in the first leg, then racing away with 8k in the second; he then played a good first leg against Dave Ingram, but this was overhauled by the seasoned Dave.
- Richard Corbould and Martin Russell punched above their weight for Kent, compensating for the non-attendance of Fitz and the Rooster: Richard despatched Nigel before losing a close one to Curt, and Martin emerged from a strong group to make it to the last eight where he lost to Bob Hall.
- Nigel received a Bye in the Plate and then shared a 40k aggregate - yes 40k in the Plate ! -with Silent.
- Silent's second round victor Matt Jones was presented with an easy task by Bob Osborne losing 9k in the first leg with an unlucky BP.
- Joe Oakley, following a tense last-ball win against Dave Ingram, played Matt in the semi-final, setting a 10k target which Matt was able to overhaul with a few k's to spare.
- In the other semi it was all Paul Sainsbury as he played out for a magnificent 23,750 break and Bob Hall conceded after putting his one-up behind in his reply.
- And good to see Horsham/Brighton teammates Stu and Jean fighting out a Plate semi-final.

Elaborating on this a little, it was not 40k to Nigel and nil to me, unusually! - although Jonesy was on course to do that in our first match. The second leg of the match Clive mentions saw both players score over 10k each which must be pretty unusual I think

The second leg of the match Clive mentions saw both players score over 10k each which must be pretty unusual I think Using the database I have got with all the national matches on I think I have found only two other cases where both players scored over 10k in a single leg. One I remember the other I do not....... Oxon Open 1998 Mark Sawyer 10,760 - 10,300 John Burrows. Sawyer must have broke down chasing Burrow's 17k Grand Prix SF 2007 Phil Collins 11,040 - 10,530 Nigel Senior. I broke down chasing only 22k made by Phil. At least I got a few more than I did against him chasing 22k in Bournemouth this year
