Well I might have been interested, after playing in a Sussex league for 20 years now... but I can’t.

Well I might have been interested, after playing in a Sussex league for 20 years now... but I can’t. Talking to John Slee the other day, he said the same (barred from entering): And in John's case - f or 20 years, substitute 50 !

This is the rule 19. Entry to SCBBA Closed events shall be restricted to players who do not represent a County other than Sussex in any AEBBA individual or team event during the same calendar year (Jan – Dec). By taking part in a SCBBA Closed competition, whether or not they have personally signed an entry form, every competitor shall be deemed to have declared that they have not represented, nor will they represent any County other than Sussex in any individual or team event as defined by AEBBA Rule 47 during the same calendar year as the Sussex Closed event they are entering.
Players that play in multiple Counties have a choice. They are not barred from playing this competition.
the Sussex Winner/Runner Up possibly even semi finalists would probably be selected to play for Sussex and could all choose to play for a different County in the AEBBA County champs. Same with the AEBBA Individuals, if winner/runner up etc decided to play for another County who would represent Sussex?
If people are not happy please send me a proposal for a rule change to discuss at the AGM and also attend the AGM so you put forward your views.

It should be added that the rule was, after introduction, later 'softened' so that the Sussex Pairs was no longer a 'closed' competition and Geoff is able to enter that one - which he does.
John and I concluded that with fewer 'outsiders' playing in Sussex leagues than previously, the situation itself has eased - so it may be timely to submit a proposed amendment to the next AGM as you suggest.
For the record, I am entering the AEBBA Off-the-Spot, but not the SCBBA equivalent - in case I should wish to resurrect my Home/Away I'League career in the autumn: can't risk it.

This rule was brought in in 2017 and has never been “softened”. The pairs was never included in this rule as one of the closed competitions.
You can enter the SCBBA Off The Spot and play home and away Inter League for whoever. Unless your thinking of playing for a County other than Sussex in the AEBBA County champs or individuals.

Ok Jean, I didn't really want to be drawn into an argument and thanks for putting me right on the point. I have no real axe to grind on the subject and in fact think the rule when brought in was well worded and has achieved the desired effect.
At the same time Geoff hints that he's hard done by especially as time has moved on with only two affected and I'm merely showing them a bit of solidarity!

Well done to James Millward on winning the Sussex singles today, Jim beat Nigel Senior in the final.
Dave Ingram won the plate, well done Dave, beating Stuart Carruthers in the final.
Another day of high class bar billiards played in a great atmosphere.
Thank you to Stuart Carruthers for doing the admin and to Jean Brackenridge for selling raffle tickets. Thanks to those who donated raffle prizes on both days, to the ladies in the kitchen who kept us fed and the bar staff who kept us watered. A very big thankyou to Martin Cole, Chris Cox, Joe Oakley and James Whittle for staying back and doing the heavy lifting. Thank you to Jean, Alan, Tupps, Christian Cox, Matt Knight who all helped with the lighter bits that needed clearing away. The club were as usual was excellent.
Thank you to those that steeped up to score during the day, it is always a pity that there are some that make no effort to help and that there are others that have to do more than there share, sure those who did not step forward to score at least one game will know who they are!!

Just to reiterate what a great weekend it was at Burgess Hill. Club excellent, tables set up superb (well done Stu). And well run by tj. But for a minute and a half i could have had both titles, but wasnt to be.... Well done to Jim, Jean and Phil & Bob on their wins. Me and Mark James knew the winner at the start of the day anyway when Jim said he wasnt feeling too well blah blah blah So this is Jim's 4th win (1981(!), 2000, 2016 & 2022) joining me, Mark and Bazza Holt as 4 time winners. Only Terry Race (5) and KT (6) have more Sussex singles titles. Good luck to him and Jean in the All England individuals later this year.

Thanks to TJ and Stu C for running the weekend, excellent competitions both days. Well done to Bob and Phil on their great win on Saturday and to Jim yesterday. Great effort from Nigel to get to both finals (with a little help from Tupps, certainly with a great break in the semi-final of the doubles), him and Joe were outstanding both days but ending with the accolades, and the big breaks rather than the silverware. Well done to Jean on winning the ladies, she looked beat a couple of times but still got the job done. Jan a very worthy runner-up Mike Daw was outstanding on Saturday too, well done to him on a first 20k. He and James Whittle won the doubles plate, excellent effort as James has been struggling for a couple of weeks so that was good for him. Well done to Dave Ingram on winning the plate yesterday, still playing well despite his health issues, arguably playing table 5 better than anyone yesterday. Great effort from Stu C to finish runner-up, he played well all weekend too The club are always great hosts and know they would like more events there which is good for us and the way players conduct themselves over the weekend. Despair turned to delight for the food lady as she had a very quiet day on Saturday only to pretty much sell out yesterday, was extremely happy for her as she really misses her friend who used to assist but sadly passed away One negative is always the same faces scoring, others disappear when they have finished playing and then return when it is their turn to play again hoping for someone to score! Not fair on TJ as he kept having to step in Finally thanks to Martin Cole, Chris Cox and Joe Oakley for all the heavy lifting when taking down the tables yesterday (Martin would not allow any slacking, and he was very scary) It was greatly appreciated that Mark James and Martin Smith stayed until the end so that our hard working trio could get home. As always, Stu M an unsung hero with the incredible amount of he did in ensuring we had excellent tables, personally thought they were slightly better on Saturday. Not only setting them up from Stu M but with Stu C's help ensuring they got back safely for Surrey to use them next weekend Good luck to Jim in the AE Singles, perhaps you should message me at 7.30am on the day of the competition too, telling me you might not be coming as you are ill - you will probably win that too
