Our Ruby Wedding Anniversary went off well this afternoon with a fun competition at the newly-refurbished Windmill. Only a half of those who had received invites turned up, for a variety of valid reasons (Covid; jetting off on holiday; having to work Saturday; seeing relatives up north - and of course the World 4-Pin being held in Suffolk). This meant the bar tab stretched a bit further than anticipated !
Main point of the proceedings was a much overdue 31's competition like used to be held at the Railway. Rules were: 20p in the kitty to start; maximum 6 players per session; score exactly 310pts to claim the pot; 20p penalty for exceeding 310pts; 10p penalty for scoring less than 100; 10p fine for going out of turn; 10p fine for not using the red when available; 10p penalty for white peg; 20p penalty for black peg; 20p penalty for disputing scorer's decision.
The kitty winners were as follows: Pot One - Dick Cable Pot Two - Paul Jobbins Pot Three - Graham Sparksman Pot Four - Martin Greenway Pot Five - Graham Sparksman Pot Six - Dick Cable Pot Seven - Clive Thompson Pot Eight - Dick Cable Pot Nine - Martin Greenway
So, in the face of stiff opposition from Sparky and Martin, DICK CABLE was declared the WORLD "31's" BAR BILLIARDS CHAMPION and went home with trousers weighted down with coins...
Margo and I really enjoyed celebrating our special day in this way and would like to thank our good friends for the cards and gifts. Bev did us proud with the catering and our daughter Angie skilfully apportioned the cake - of which there was none left over afterwards !
