Alan Donovan beat Dave Ingram to win his first Open
Martin Cole scored the highest break of 20,530
Special mention to Gregg Davison who entered his first open since 1989 and managed to beat Mark Trafford in his first round match

Congratulations to Alan Donovan on winning the Surrey Open today, deservedly beating me in the final. Alan had beaten Kevin Tunstall in his semi-final and I beat Steven Sheard in the other one. Matt Jones beat Nigel Senior in the Plate Final, a 20k break from Matt in that game and also in the semi-final against Mark Trafford. A big thank you to Joe Ellison for all his hard work running the Admin Desk, well assisted by Michael Wilson who kept all the draw and scores updated. Thank you also to everyone involved in setting up and taking down the tables and to Salfords Club for hosting the event. A very enjoyable day.

Thoughts of the day........... 1. A well-run event, great effort from Joe Elleson, young Michael acting as 'runner' and good support from the committee. 2. A friendly atmosphere - most important and long may this continue. 3. Many of the top players were consigned to the Plate - must be the strongest seen for years. 4. No fluke with who became finalists in the Main, Dave Ingram had to beat Matt Jones, Martin Smith, John Slee, Gerry Fitzjohn and Steven Sheard before coming up against the irrepressible Alan Donovan (victor over KT) in the Final. 5. Some great games won by a hair's breadth: Gerry v Jason Neal; Bob Hall v David Jones; Dave Ingram v John Slee to name but three. 6. Two 20k breaks (Martin Cole and Matt Jones). 7. KentPoolies's great first-round win over the World Champion.

As already said a great day with the tables all good but offering different challenges. Well done to Alan on his win, taking the chances he was given well to progress to the final. Well run day and good to see helpers there at the end to take the tables down and back onto the van.

Hi all. I would just like to reiterate all the sentiments people have posted about the weekend at Salfords. It started on Saturday with our In house team event and culminated on Sunday with a great Surrey open . Some wonderful bar billiards at a great venue . Thanks to all the efforts of Joe and Michael on admin and all the hard work of the Salford gang, Fritz, Nev,Sheila, Anita and Karen not forgetting our chairman Tony. I think we must have raised a good 500 pounds for our chosen charity, Thanks to you all. Congratulations to Alan on winning and hard luck Dave. Many stars bit the dust early which left Messrs Senior and Jones to contest the plate final. (That doesn't happen too often) . Well done Matt. Just great to see opens running once more.
Thanks Sleezy.
