Here's a good quiz for the discerning punter, with rating 'difficult'.
You know the Shipping Forecast on the Radio ? You know - Forties, Dogger, Fisher, German Bight ?
What you have to name is the Weather Region/Sea Area covered by these Coastal Stations. For example, Dover Coastal Station covers the Weather Region Dover. But - rascal that I am - I've given you the only easy one !
1. Sumburgh 2. St Abb's Head 3. Smith's Knoll 4. Royal Sovereign 5. Jersey and Channel Light Vessel 6. Land's End 7. Valentia 8. Ronaldsway 9. Tiree 10. Butt of Lewis
2pts for each one answered correctly. Good luck ! You may need it !

Being an ex matelot I could nobble most of these, but am just off out the door to set up the tables for the KBBA festival.
Also being a mad keen motorcyclist though, I can't miss Ronaldsway (Isle of Mann) for region Irish Sea.

I cobbled together this quiz from an encyclopedia, and tried to 'google' some of the answers for these myself last night but without success - hence the difficulty.
But Sav, you're off the mark with 8) Irish Sea for 2 well-earned points.

Royal Sovereign as ib Royal Sovereign Light, sadly now a lighthouse instead of a light ship is Wight.
Lands End I would guess is Lundy as it's not Plymouth (Scilly??)
Channel Light vessel is Portland
Valentia I think is Shannon
Sumburgh is Fair Isle.
Gibraltar Point I think is Humber.

Sav is going for the Biggest TAR as well as the biggest tart ;D ;D. 4)Wight correct. 2pts 6) Lundy/Plymouth - well I've got Plymouth but it's situated right on the borderline so probably serves both. 2pts 5) Portland correct. 2pts 7) Shannon correct. 2pts 1) Fair Isle correct. 2pts Well done, only 2,3,9 and 10 to get. Gibraltar Point I think is Humber. Sav Wasn't one of the questions but I'll give you a point for it. ;) Leader: [glow=red,2,300]Sav 13pts [/glow]

Cheers Clive was running throuth the local ones in my mind, not forgetting Varne Sav. Lightship in the straits of Dover, south-east of Folkestone, I believe. So in sea-area "Dover". Bonus point awarded. Leader: [glow=red,2,300]Sav 14pts[/glow]

Hello again Tommo. I have had to do some digging for this one and I am still unsure of the answer? ??? quite hard when you have a 3 year old nagging you for juice and things every 5 mins...
Well I have looked these up in an encyclopedia and hope I am right, I have worked out That there are three outstanding, correct me if I am wrong, and my answers are below! :D
2) St Abb's Head (On the Berkshire coast) these may be Forth, Forties and possibly Tyne or Fisher? :P
3) Smiths Knoll, Is not far from Cromer, I would say that was Humber, Thames and maybe German Bight. :P
9) Tiree, is a Scottish island and I think by the map it may serve Malin, Rockall and Hebrides ? ? ? ? Well thats about it that is my my best shot with a little help from a book I will add. :-[ :-[ :-/
The New addition Tommo as explained last night at snashers quarter/semi final. Here are the answers to number 10.
10) Hebrides, Faeroes, Fair Isle and I think Bailey? ???
Once again mate this is my best shot ? :-/ :-/ :-/

Good answers Mick, and I'm sure when you said Berkshire coast you meant Berwickshire coast. ;)
In each case the coastal station serves a primary area (2pts for this) and has an influence for supplementary areas (for 1pt)
So, 2) Forth correct, 2pts; Forties, Tyne, Fisher also correct for 1pt each. You could have also had Cromarty and Dogger.
3) Humber correct, 2pts; Thames and German Bight also correct for 1pt each. Could also have had Tyne and Dogger.
9) Malin correct, 2pts; Rockall and Hebrides also correct for 1pt each.
One dead easy one left to get : 10) Butt of Lewis.
Leaderboard : 1. Sav 14pts 2. MicktheHammer 13pts

Sav gets the last one Hebrides right for 2pts. Colemanator answered too within 5 minutes but gave the location of the station rather than the Weather Region, so gets 1pt. Would have allowed the extra answers of Rockall, Bailey, Faeroes and S.E.Iceland which are under the influence of Butt of Lewis Coastal Station. As a matter of interest look at these links : www.isle-of-lewis.com/panoramas/buttlewispage.htmwww.nlb.org.uk/ourlights/history/buttoflewis.htmThe first one gives some brilliant panoramic views from Lewis, guaranteed to bring a tear to the eye of the most anglicised of Scotsmen. Whilst the second one bears reference to the Butt ( of Lewis, not of the Colemanator ;) ) as being the windiest place in the UK.

Once again mate this is my best shot ? :-/ :-/ :-/ Just noticed Mick's appendum, so will score that in its own right : 10) Hebrides 2pts; Faeroes 1pt; Bailey 1pt. Fair Isle is more than adequately covered by Sumburgh which was Q1) (answered by Sav). So 4pts to go on. Final tally: 1. MicktheHammer 17pts 2. Sav 16pts 3. Colemanator 1pt
