Redhill B | 5 | v | 2 | Mid Sussex | Martin Pellett* | 6650 | - | 1030 | Paul Moyes-Robb | Alex Hornby | 3070 | - | 1230 | *Mick Kirwan | Mark Fraser | 7000 | - | 6910 | *Derek Taylor | Michael Wilson* | 12000 | - | 470 | Paul Jobbins | Martin Greenway | 5440 | - | 4670 | *Barry West | Joe Elleson | 730 | - | 3350 | *Andy Farmer-Wright | Tom Pearce* | 1280 | - | 1520 | Ros Appleby |
Redhill B continued their strong start to the season with a commanding win over Mid-Sussex, who managed to make the scoreline respectable at the end. First up Martin was on and off fairly quickly with just a couple of k on the board, but Paul was unable to make use of this opportunity as Martin made no mistake when he got the balls back at the second time of asking - adding 4k and tap to take the opener. 1-0. Next up Mick and Alex scrapped away furiously and it looked as if Mick was gonna sneak it. But with a couple of minutes to go he pegged a 2k break and Alex then added enough to get over the line with a scoreline that looks more comfortable than it was. 2-0. The third game was a super battle as Derek went toe-to-toe with the in-form and slightly boozed up Fritz. Derek went off with 2.8k before he broke down and Fritz soon got the balls back and made a flying 7k break in what would be his only visit of the match. Derek then got the balls back - and in the process took the top two spots in the "Toms fluke of the day" contest - and played the table out for 4.1k leaving him a mere 90 short. Now I don't want to talk too much about this but our scorer got some very unnecessary flak in the aftermath of the close finish. They did not deserve to be treated as they were and I hope an apology goes there way in due course. 3-0. As the drama of the previous frame spilled over Michael and Paul - now teammates in the Billingshurst League - played out the fourth leg. Sadly for Paul he'd got Michael on a good day as 7.8k and tap was enough to seal the point. Michael managed to rack up a personal high inter-league score of 12,000 to seal the win for Redhill, despite a scare with the black peg after the bar had gone. 4-0. So as Paul said, it was now time to avoid the whitewash and it looked like Barry would do that as he built up a 2k lead with 3mins to play against Martin. Martin, though, was in no mood to let the leg go away though as he cleared wonderfully and played the table out for 3k to add a fifth to the Redhill tally. 5-0. The sixth frame was a rather scrappy affair, with Joe in particular struggling with the table but he was still well in it with five minutes to go. A timely 2k from Andy though was enough to put the frame beyond Joe and put a first frame up for the beleaguered - but now rather jubilant - visitors. 5-1. The finale saw eight or nine pints Tom up against the finisher Ros and Tom proudly proclaimed that he may struggle in this game due to the influence of a pre-match bender. That didn't really show though as Tom accumulated a steady 2k break only to leave a ball between the 20 and 30, which he promptly missed. This match the went scrappy with neither player able to make a significant contribution, although there were several breaks of zero which were well kept. As the bar came into sight Tom was gifted the break back - 510 points the deficit. 15 once, 30 twice, 45 one up, 50 and the bar! Tom was 10 behind and just needed to play the last eight balls out... one good split was all that was needed! Sadly he missed and Ros played the table out to win by the skin of her teeth. A tight game to finish and bring the score to a more respectable 5-2. So Redhill will have one more fixture before the Christmas break when they entertain Worthing B - a big game in the battle for second behind the might of West Sussex!

Worthing B 3 - 4 Lewes
Brian Richards * 10 - 9210 Jan Bithell. Brian never really settled and pegged an opening 1.5k, Jan took full advantage a played a great leg with 2 x 4k plus breaks looking very comfortable on the table and showing her team how to play the table with some excellent splits.
James Whittle 2670 - 1590 Rick Bithell *. Rick going well at 3.5k somewhat unlucky to peg and present James with the break. James took full advantage with a 900 break!! and was first to get them back and add 800!! Rick next with break back and we thought all over but was off at 1400, with the bar due James managed to stay on the table and pinch what looked like and unlikely win.
Rick Cunningham 240 - 9390 (9390 break) Dave Knight *. Dave giving Rick no chance opening with 9390 break, Rick did get the balls back but pegged 2k+ break. Rick did finish with the 200 to put some score on the board. A very good opener from Dave with no scares.
Paul Barnett * 6120 - 940 Huw Lincoln. Paul off at 2k but Huw unable to get the balls back, Paul added another 4k to make sure and match all square again.
Dave Jones 1940 - 8580 (7690 break) Trevor Rees *. Trevor off early and Dave two good chances to get the break back but unable to take advantage and Trevor made sure with a very good 7690 break.
Tony Jenner 6490 (6390 break) - 6860 Chase Newman *. Pivotal game of the evening with Chase opening with 3.5k, TJ balls back and going well before spinning 50 out on the one up as 6390. Chase a good clearance and played the table out to the last ball to grab the win. TJ did get the 100 but was left ruing the missed opportunity as would only have needed to make sure of the one up and the split to make sure, numpty.
Alan Mepham * 6360 - 190 Richard Todd. Alan opened with 3.9k and with Richard getting no luck Alan took full advantage even pegging a 2k break in the process. Was good to see Alan in good form.
A good night with the Lewes team, plenty of banter, some good bar billiards, good company and a nice spread of sandwiches and assorted side dishes was demolished with ease at the end.

Brighton A 3-4 Worthing A (first off table much tricker than usual, and had to be adjusted close to start time) **Bob Hall 12,520 - 2200 Gary Ridley - Bob got nearly 3k in his opening break, Gary got nearly level in 2 breaks. Bob had a couple more to make sure but it was tough going Phil Osborne 180 - 14,540 Joe Oakley** - whilst nearly everyone else struggled during the night Joe did not. An excellent and "steady" or was it slow 8k in 12 mins with multiple stops for cue chalking to prevent miscues and to annoy scorer and opponent alike, but hard to argue with a quality break which gave Phil no chance - adding more later for good measure Dave Ingram 2090 - 11,710 Martin Smith** - deary me where to start, I think it is fair to say both players well below their normal high standards with missed splits and one-ups behind a plenty. Martin had 4 breaks and Dave was still well in it when he got them back but missed both balls on his first split, Martin kept ahead to give the visitors a vital leg **Chris Tupper 1500 - 6450 Mike Daw - Tupps has been in brilliant form but he did not find the table to his liking, losing his opening break when missing a ball close to the right hand 30. Mike couldn't hit it either and Tupps make an excellent clearance giving himself a second chance. Unfortunately he could not take it and Mike made a quality and controlled 6k break for the win Nigel Senior 8660 - 9740 Stuart Mepham** - the most competitive leg of the night. Stuart missed both balls on his first split, Nige got them straight back and battled really hard for over 8k, then left the one up hanging. Stu got them straight back and working over all the holes at the back made a great comeback with 9k to win the leg and the match for the visitors, leaving Nige ruing his luck this week Matthew Knight 13,240 - 690 Terry Molloy** - Kevin took pity on me, and put Terry on rather than handing me another beating this week! Cheers Kev, I even took advantage of his generosity with Tel never recovering from an early miscue, breaks of 3.5k and 9.5k enough for the win **Kevin Hall 10,080 - 2370 Kevin Tunstall - interesting "dead rubber" with our super reserve taking out the under par WC - some of the "worst shots" ever seen from KT including 2 pegs and an unfortunate miscue meant he took pity on one lucky opponent this week. Chunky did need a few breaks to seal the deal but happy to take the last and make the score look respectable Well done to the visitors on their deserved win, a few under par performances from both teams, unfortunately we had a few more of them , didn't stop the loud banter flowing

Brighton B 2 Redhill A 5
Thanks Jean for posting last night's scores on our match. The scoreline noway reflects what could Have been a lot different on the night. The home side taking a 2-0 lead with Jack playing a cracking leg against Dave J. Next up Myself and Chelle had a terrific leg that was only settled with my last visit. Jean was very unlucky to lose 4k next And Gary made it 2.2. Geoff played well to give us the lead. Colin off early gave stuart a good chance But left a one up hanging and Colin made no mistake next up. Another unlucky lost score from Dave late on Gave dc the last leg. A lovely evening with the Brighton B guys and girls followed with a lovely casserole and a few pints.
