Some interesting games this evening.... Game 1 Ian off on 1.7k but left a horrible ball in the middle of the table, Bob missed it and Ian played a good shot (2nd visit) to clear it and get the break back, only to miss again on 1.4k. Bob got the break back but left the one up just in front, Ian break back and made 5k to make the leg safe. 1-0 Game 2 A terrific opening break of 8,960 from Grant, who played very steadily and didn't miss a split. Phil got the break straight back but probably didn't have long enough and he missed on just under 2k, Grant finished the game off. 1-1 Game 3 It is truly hard to put into words how badly I played in this leg, woeful simply doesn't do it justice! I managed to whip the red ball out on my opening break shot, ball ended up in no mans land, pushed them both down the back but neither of them got close to a hole. Bob got break back and made 2.5k before coming off. Although he left them in a fairly nice place, a poor shot meant nothing went in. No luck for Bob so another chance for me (I was perhaps a bit unlucky this time) before Bob got the break back again and made a 5k break to take the leg. I still couldn't pot a ball and Bob added some more later.... perhaps "pitiful" would describe my performance but Bob certainly deserved the win. 2-1 Game 4 With Bob taking the important leg against the break, it was over to Nigel to take the win for the Oak Team. 10,580 and touch to give Mark no chance, Mark did get the break back but left the one up in front on 2k, Nigel pegged another break but it was match won for the home team. 3-1 Game 5 Stuart opened with 4k and first to get them back to add another 4k. With the leg won, we still had time to watch Chippers get more practice on missing both the one up and the split shots which made for an entertaining finale to the evening. 3-2 Well done to the New Oak team, always a good evening and a nice sausage casserole to finish the night.

Great report from Dave on our match last night with the Stag. We hang on to our unbeaten record - the dream continues....or is it the hope that kills you?
As Dave has done the report it means Chippers gets off lightly this week, although Chippers was nearly replaced by a new signing before the first game......
A local in the pub was clearly excited to see a bar billiards table in the pub and came over to me, stu, grant, phil, bob & ian. He explained that 40 years ago he made a 1400 break - which made me think how much is 1400 worth on today's tables - 10k, 15k? With Marcus out having a fag I was considering asking this bloke to play in this big match against the Stag. He then called me a youngster (at this point he was in the team!) but then told me I had no chance at EVER getting good this game, as he said the trouble is that he has seen players in the pub and they NEVER miss EVER. I did tell him I would keep trying to get better....
So I thought we would better stick with Chippers - who else is going to pick me up? And yes there were a few missed one ups and splits against Stu in the last game, but he smashed the table in his practice game afterwards - so watch out for him next time!
I will add that I did have one big moment in my game against Mark where I left a ball slap bang in the middle of the table between the 100 and the 10 on about 2k but managed to get out of it with a 20-30 recovery and settled down after.
So there you are - games 1 and 3 were massive on the night - table playing very well - great night with the Stag guys, Jim was a big loss for them, hope he recovers soon.

Blue Anchor 5-0 New Oak B
**Rick Cunningham 6200 - 3640 Jean Brackenridge Chris Cox 7270 - 1930 Lorraine Hall** Joe Oakley 8920 - 2320 Sandra Hall** **Tony Jenner 6790 - 5740 Alan Brackenridge **Matthew Knight 11,770 - 650 Jean Brackenridge (4 player)
It was disappointing to hear that Jean was only able to get 4 players due to unavailability and communication issues, felt for her as it makes the night less enjoyable and certainly less competitive. That being said it was very nice to see Lorraine and Sandra step in to play, and making the best of it - hopefully our hospitality made it a more enjoyable night than it might have been, the food was definitely good! There was still plenty of banter and quips flying around
On the table we did take full advantage of the situation, although we were also assisted by a couple of pegs in legs 1 and 5. 4th leg the best and most competitive of the night with Tony building a 5k lead which Alan overtook before TJ kept his nerve to seal the win

Was great to see Lorraine and Sandra out playing and a good evening spent in genial comapny.

Food was excellent although not sure it’s a good idea to have a cheese board when Alan’s there 🤣 hopefully others managed to have some 🤣
