Here's a bit of fun.
Listed are 13 "door mat" songs, where the sentiment is: "You treat me like dirt but I love you anyway." All you have to do is recognise the song from the lyrics.
1pt each for the song and the artiste(s).
1."If I have to sleep on your doorstep all night and day just to keep you from walkin' away, let your friends laugh, even this I can stand cause I want to keep you any way I can."
2."Through the mirror of my mind, through these tears that I'm crying, reflects a hurt I can't control, 'Cause although you're gone, I keep holding on, to the happy times, oh, when you were mine."
3."Maybe I know that he's been cheating, maybe I know that he's been untrue, but what can I do?"
4."And though I know all about those men, still I don't remember, 'Cause it was us, baby, way before then, and we're still together, and I meant, every word I said, when I said that I loved you I meant that I loved you forever."
5."Oh woman, oh woman, don't treat me so mean, you're the meanest old woman I've ever seen... Uh, what'd you say? I didn't understand you. You can't mean that, aw now baby, please. What you tryin to do to me?"
6."I think I'm gonna be sad, I think it's today, yeah The girl that's driving me mad is going away.... She said that living with me was bringing her down, she would never be free while I was around".
7."You got me standing in line out in the cold, pay me some mind. Bend me, shape me, anyway you want me, long as you love me, it's all right.
8."Each night I sit at home, hoping that he will phone, but I know Bobby has someone else. Still in my heart I pray, that soon will come the day when I'll have Bobby all to myself."
9."Here's the moral and the story from the guy who knows, I fell in love and my love still grows, Ask any fool that she ever knew, they'll say, Keep away from-a Runaround Sue."
10."The teardrops that you stepped on as you danced across the floor, Were crushed like my poor heart was when you walked out of the door."
11."Worst of all you never call baby when you say you will but I love you still"
12."This old heart of mine been broke a thousand times, each time you go away I feel you're gone to stay... ...but if you leave me a hundred times...a hundred times I'll take you back."
.......and, a favourite with all male chauvinists ! .......
13."It makes no difference if you're rich or poor, or if you're smart or dumb, a woman's place in this old world is under some man's thumb. And if you're born a woman you're born to be hurt. You're born to be stepped on, lied to, cheated on and treated like dirt. Ah if you're born a woman, you're born to be hurt. A woman's lot is to give and give and go on giving. A woman's got to love and lose and go on living. Well I was born a woman. I didn't have no say, and when my man finally comes home he makes me glad it happened that way. Because to be his woman no price is too great to pay. Yes, I was born a woman. I'm glad it happened that way."
Good luck !

7 Bend Me Shape Me Amen Corner (saw them in Kettering a few weeks ago) The American Breed did it as well :o Three well-deserved points for that. And coincidentally my brother is trying to get tickets for us to see Amen Corner locally. Tell me, is Andy Fairweather-Lowe featured in the band ? And do they have saxophones ? Bonus points available for information. ;) Leaderboard: 1. Stormin' 11pts 2. H/V/P 3pts

Yes they have saxophones but not Andy Fairweather Lowe. The singer they have has a brilliant voice though Tommo and they do a really good performance and I'd definitely see them again :D
...........and 11 was the Foundations and 12 The Isley Brothers

Thanks for that. Have found this link: www.amencorner.co.uk/NewAmenCornerHomePage.aspLooks like I'll be going to see tham at the Boom-Boom Club (Sutton Utd Football Club) on Friday 14th September. Tickets are never much more than a tenner and its a nice club with plenty of parking so represents good value. (I saw both Wishbone Ash and Audience there last year). Sorry, got carried away, forgot to score you: ;D That's three more points to go on, one for 8) Bobbys Girl ; one for 11) Foundations and one for 12) Isley Brothers. Leaderboard: 1. Stormin' 11pts 2. H/V/P 6pts To get : 1,3,5,10,13 plus artist only for 8.

Apart from 3 which Maybe I Know by Leslie Gore (sp?) which I got by singing it (much to my colleagues' collective consternation!)
cheers Tony

You guys are wringing quite a lot out of this quiz. ;) Lord Cheeky gets 1pt for the Temptations; Stormin' gets a bonus point for Marcie Blane - as it was her original, though only a hit in the States. There was a much bigger hit version in the UK and I can just imagine Fazza screaming the correct answer at his PC right now !
Leaderboard: 1. Stormin' 12pts 2. H/V/P 6pts 3. Barbelman 4pts 4. H&J 3pts 5= DaveJones 1pt 5=Lord Cheeky 1pt

1pt for that Fazza-inspired effort. 2 bonus half-points for the extra info, and I won't claim one myself as my section leader (a crazy half-Italian woman with enormous doofers) sang it when she new we had a new manager taking over called Bob. ;)
Leaderboard: 1. Stormin' 12pts 2. H/V/P 6pts 3. H&J 5pts 4. Barbelman 4pts 5= DaveJones 1pt 5=Lord Cheeky 1pt
Still to get : 10) for 2pts - plus artist only for 13) for 1pt.

10) Two excellent points for Lord Cheeky.
However (unless I'm very much mistaken) Connie Smith is not right for number 13. I'm going to award half a point though as Connie Smith was a prolific recorder of Doormat Songs, such as "Why dont you love me" and "You've Got Me Right Where You Want Me".
Leaderboard: 1. Stormin' 12pts 2. H/V/P 6pts 3. H&J 5pts 4. Barbelman 4pts 5. Lord Cheeky 3.5pts 6. DaveJones 1pt
Still the singer for number 13 to get - will increase reward to 2.5pts. ;)

10. Teresa Brewer, A Tear Fell ( i know lord cheeky went for this, but he spelled the name wrong)
A fool am I, a fool am I, in love
A tear fell when I saw you in the arms of someone new A tear fell when you left me all alone and feeling blue A tear fell when you told me that your love was not for me Oh, I didn't miss the teardrops but I missed you constantly A fool am I, a fool am I, in love
The teardrops that you stepped on as you danced across the floor Were crushed like my poor heart was when you walked out of the door A tear fell when you told me that the flame in your heart died Darlin', have I lost you like these teardrops from my eyes? A fool am I, a fool am I in love
A tear fell when you told me that your love was not for me Oh, I didn't miss the teardrops but I missed you constantly A fool am I, a fool am I, in love
And it was Jan Howard for number 13

Welcome back to your Friday night slot, Jock. I'm not taking anything away from Lord Cheeky for bad spelling, so his 2pts stand, but I'll grudgingly award you 0.5pts for transcribing the full lyrics for A Tear Fell.
The only incidents of bad spelling that get my hackles up are when people mis-use the word "loose" for "lose" and I might later compile a quiz on that topic. ;)
As regards your answer Jan Howard, not right and I'll treat you the same as Lord Cheeky as Ms Howard was a prolific recorder of doormat songs such as "I Wish I Was a Single Girl Again", "What Makes a Man Wander" and "I Know You're Married (But I Love You Still)" But not number 13 as far as I know. So 0.5pts only for Jan.

Or is it Nick Lowe, singer of much maligned nonsense as Only a fool breaks his own heart and true love travels on a gravel road, amongst others.

Well done, Jock. You gain the last 2.5 points for the extremely wonderful Sandy Posey. You did not say which record of the three you mentioned contained the lyrics, but full marks anyway as you mentioned her biggest hit "The Single Girl" - which brings back fond memories of listening to the Pirate Radio Stations whilst blackcurrant picking for a bit of money in the school holidays. You can check out all her lyrics here : www.top40db.net/Find/Songs.asp?By=Artist&ID=1051&Match=Sandy+PoseyQuiz ended: 1. Stormin' 12pts 2. H/V/P 6pts 3. H&J 5pts 4.
