Henty 3 Prince of Wales 2
Bob 9750 v 3920 Coxy - one break each Dave Reeves 6340 v 5810 Daniel - strange game, Dan off on 1400, Dave built a 4k lead, Dan came back and went in front but let Dave in to nick the leg Chocie 10450 v 1970 Bazza - Barry off very quickly, Stu took advantage with a good break Stu C 5110 v 14420 Nipper - one break each again, excellent attacking play from Coley KT 130 v 4100 Joe - I reckon Joe would have got around 22/23k if he hadn’t missed a ball in the middle on around 10k, plodded after that for the win
Table was very good but it did catch the Prince boys out early on. Thanks to Steve & Katt for their hospitality

Alexandra B 2 - 3 Alexandra A
Colin Green * 8060 – 3640 Rick Cunningham Brian Richards 850 – 5510 Pete Hickman * Terry Denyer 570 – 10550 Michael Wilson * 6560 break Vern Blake * 5320 – 5180 Tony Jenner Roger Taylor 1260 – 5090 James Whittle*
A good night as usual with the As but one where 8 out of the 10 players put the one up behind at least once.
Colin started with about 2k before putting the one up behind, Rick built lead with 3k + break then put the one up behind. Colin first to get them back and 5k + break and touch with bar due.
Pete a steady game taking an early lead and keeping his head in front throughout. Brian did manage to put the one up behind to join the majority.
Michael off early with one up behind and first to get them back adding another 2k +, Terry unable to get the balls back, Michael then good 6560 break to make sure.
Vern off at around 2 k one up behind, TJ break back twice but one up behind both times taking the right hand peg. Vern built 4.2k lead before TJ break back and 5k break and decided with time running out to play the 50s but off 750 ahead. Vern got them back with bar due and edged ahead needing to sink the last 2 balls for a win, left one up but 100 first time to take it to a decider.
James off at 2k, Roger no luck at the top of the table. James added another 1.2 break before Roger break back. Got to 1.2k and one up behind. James made sure.

Not only Pete without a mention but TJ you have changed my name and, sadly, I didn’t get the chance to go “behind” …….unlike yourself with more than one try!!!

Report from Stags Head B v Stags Head A Always look forward to the local derby, spicey on and off the table and tonight was no exception, in a friendly way of course Leg 1 - In form Tupps went off with a very Tupps like 5.7k, he left the one up short again leaving Geoff a great chance especially after he made a very good clearance to get the balls back on his first visit. Looking very comfortable to 3.5k there was some concern in the B camp but he thinned a 10 split and missed both balls. Tupper time took over and everyone knows what that means, 1-0 and a good start for us Leg 2 - No suprise to see Mark put Jim down after Nige put me down second, even less of a surprise that Jim went off with enough. It was a pretty awesome break but he did thin a 100 split and they only just dropped, and then a bit of a surprise he missed a 10 split but made a couple of great recovery shots to get the balls back. I ended up with BFZ when I pegged after Jim touched up. Ended up buying Jim 2 pints and giving him a lift home, considering I am about 15 matches to 2 down that was ridiculously generous!! 1-1 Leg 3 - probably the pivotal leg of the night. I am sure Martin won't mind me saying (he might but I am going to say it anyway) that he has been nowhere near his best in the two matches against us, yet he has still won them both!! He had a very ropey start which included leaving a one up short before 2k (about an inch short, which was closer than a couple of people left it later on ) I know Phil was disappointed he could not take adavantage, Martin then got the balls back but the fun was still not over, he left a 100 split right on the edge, played a good shot but then I think he thought he had missed the ball completely but somehow ended up getting the both in the 2 30s Anyway he played pretty well after that and made 7k and touched, Phil did get the balls back but left a one-up about a foot short 1-2 Leg 4 - Jean started well but on about 3k she left the one up an inch behind the 50 and was off. Dave got them back and set up about the chase, he had got slightly in front when, I think due to arm or shoulder ache following his numeorus Proboards posts during the day, he left a one up two feet short With the ball sitting tricky close to the right hand cushion Jean could not quite execute a difficult shot, Dave played a couple of good shots and got them back. There followed an entertaning 6 minutes or so with a mixture of weird, wonderful and woeful shots Dave scrambled his way to 4.5k, whilst in the background captain Mark was doing more pacing than me...apologies to Mr Osborne Senior as I kept getting in his way! I think Dave touched up (my team mates don't agree) which still gave Jean half a chance, unfortunately she was unable to take it, Dave's win giving his team the match 1-3 Leg 5 - Usual suspects going against each other with Mark taking on Nigel in the last. Normality was restored with Mark going off with enough, he did say it was easier with the pressure lifted but I felt he would have made enough even if it had been a decider, Mark agreed! When Nige did get a go he left a one up about foot and a half short, it was that sort of night 1-4 Well done the A team on their win, with favourable results elsewhere they are certainly in pole position in the race for the title. There is still plenty of bar billiards to play though

Fantastic report as always from the "Silent" one who, to be honest, was probably kept quieter than normal last night by the "heroic performance" of the A Team visitors! Just to add a bit more about the epic 4th game of the evening.... Leg 4 - Jean started well but on about 3k she left the one up an inch behind the 50 and was off. I think Dave touched up (my team mates don't agree) which still gave Jean half a chance, unfortunately she was unable to take it, Dave's win giving his team the match 1-3 I was certainly surprised when Jean missed on 3k as she had looked superb up until that stage, she even kindly left both balls in nice places to enable me to get the break back with 2 easy shots.... that was when the fun started. I don't know why I felt so cold in the pub last night, my fingers were actually blue and I had no feeling in them at all (circulation issues caused by heart problem - grrrr), so it was perhaps no surprise that my one-up was all over the place and I spent the entire of my first break either playing the 10 split or potting on the 50 hole, which kept me going until I had just overtaken her opening break. 2 weeks ago, I unfortunately ripped the rotator cuff in my right shoulder, although pain killers and trips to the chiropractor have helped, it is still not fully healed yet and, every now and then, it will suddenly tighten and spasm. That is what happened when I missed the one-up.... it wasn't 2 miles short, it was probably at least 3 miles! I did apologise to Jean for the horrible position that I had left the balls in and she was unlucky not to pot the white into the 50 hole. I will say that I played some good shots to get the break back and made the most painful 4.5k break that I have ever made, no control on the one up, all over the table and kept going only by virtue of some good recovery shots and a couple of bits of luck. I am not sure if it was more painful to play (my shoulder had almost locked by the end of the game) or to watch.... weird, wonderful and woeful was certainly a good way to summarise it. With a lead of almost 5k and less than 3 minutes to play, I did touch up around the 50 hole and ran away with a "W" to my name, if only to prevent Captain Mark from wearing out either his shoe leather or the pub floor with his pacing....

Any 10k breaks in the game between the Stags?? Mark touched up on 12k plus, Jim I think was just under 10k when he touched up but I'm not sure if they were recorded.

Tarring Club 2 - 3 The Vine Dave Collins * 5310 – 3950 Paul Barnett Matt Jones * 5740 – 1620 Ros Appleby Mike Formoy * 2080 – 3100 Neil Higgins Bepo * 1280 – 3730 Gary Ridley Tony Collins * 1190 – 1350 Ros Appleby A very busy night at the Tarring Club on Thursday, three home pool matches and a BB match. Parking at an absolute premium, still, I needed the walk. Best game of the night in the first with both players playing well but giving each other chances. Dave closing it out . 1-0 Next up Matt so we elected for Ros. Matt steady throughout but giving many chances, Ros being polite and declining them all. 2-0 Mike on for Tarring with Neil for us. Table certainly a bit trickier now than in first two and lots of odd/unlucky shots before Neil used his experience to bring us back in the match. 2-1 Bepo up next against captain Ridley. I sneaked in front early doors and whilst able to get the break back, was as usual unable to get the break down more than once/twice eventually leaving the one up short (consistent season long theme). Table became loaded and I was able to level the match. 2-2 On to the decider. We drew the 4 player rule participant after the third match so Tarring had decided their tactics and left Tony to take on Ros. Table clearly harder now but many somewhat odd/poor/weird/wonderful shots in this one and it was nip and tuck with the break not coming back all. Tony managed to slowly eke out a lead of 320 with a couple of minutes left. Ros then chased balls all round the back and compiled 380 taking her in front, but both players could win with the last ball. Pressure on - Ros sinks the 100 first time, allowing us to record only our second win all season. 2-3 Good night with the Tarring boys, good spread of sandwiches, an enjoyable evening.
