Week behind Roger I know Martin Cole won the Masters but not sure of any other results. Try asking in the West Sussex Board never know someone may put up a reply!!

What a great day at the 1st West Sussex Open, great and friendly venue, good food on offer and well run for their first attempt.
Will only say Kevin Tunstall beat Nigel Senior in the final after Nigel had run the table out for 19100, Kevin went past that score at just the right time to make sure of his win. Phil Osborne beat Daniel Wheal in the Plate final. Will leave the full facts and figures to the organisers but a big thank you to all those who worked hard to get the event up and running and here is to it continuing for many years to come.

Well done to Kevin in the final yesterday. I was pleased to set him a decent target. More pleased when said oops on a split that looked thin on the way to the 100, then less pleased when that ball missed the right hand peg. His next shot flirted with the same peg but he then recovered and got past me, despite a visit to the back of the table right near the end to tease me. A great final to be involved in and although I have played Kev many times in Brighton/Worthing and Sussex finals, this was only our second national open final against each other, the other one being way back in 2008 in Kent, I lost that one too Many thanks to the 3 amigos Martin, Coxy and Joe Oakley who did a fantastic job at running both the triples on the Saturday and the open on the Sunday. Both events incredibly well supported by the players, lets hope there will be many more West Sussex opens to come. A terrific weekend...

Well and just like that it’s all over. I would like to thank all who attended over the whole weekend. Without you guys turning up and making up the entries there would not have been an open to run, I would also like to take the time to thank Gareth, Barry, Martin and Joe turning up early morning on Saturday to help get the tables set up on the Saturday especially the first two as they were not even playing. Claire at the Emsworth club for coming in early to allow us access and for providing the food all weekend. To Jaki, Melissa and of course Hannah Cole for there help with the Raffle, Cake selling and by now the well known infamous swear jar which all together helped £265 pounds for charity. Now on to the Bar Billiards. Saturday’s triples event was won by David Ingram, Ian Cross and Hayden Ingram beating Nigel Senior, Colin Green and Pete “the chippy”. In what was a very close final, Special mention must go to Pete who as beginner having a total of 3 mins practice with Martin Cole on Friday night Opened up with a break on 1400 which included a a very well executed 3 times , 1 up and a perfect 50 and 100 split, Which have must have been good as it had Nigel senior doing his best Elvis impression down on one knee with added fist pump.
The open Now we will admit despite our best efforts to have the tables in tip top condition the day was troubled by 2 particular tricky tables that proved to be difficult all day. But round 1 did star start in style with Martin Cole after starting off well with a 14,610 break against Alan Donovan, Alan was not to be outdone and responded with a wonderful 15,410 near playout to take the victory. An early warning to all As KT in his opening round taking the high break of the day award with a fabulous break 20,980 this with an excursion to the back of the table and time for his opponent Bob Osbourne to score 1060 himself. The QF stage saw some surprise match up’s with James Whittle, Rick Cunningham and the best performing West Sussex player of the day Trevor Fitzwilliam all performing well on the day and making the last 8. The semifinal match ups Nigel vs Gerry Fitz & KT Vs Rick Cunningham saw Nigel progressing with a 11.9k vs 3.6k after Nigel taking advantage of Gerrys misses of what was a trick table 8. KT again was in great form with a table playout of 17,570 sadly proving too much for Rick to chase down and ending his challenge. In the plate Semis Phil Osborne overcame a 2k deficient vs Tony Jenner with an excellent 8650 break Daniel Wheal overcame a close match up and prevented an all Osborne Plate final. Sadly for Dan the final proving to be a match too far as an early miss on his break was ruthlessly taken advantage of by Phil with a superb 11,950 playout and break, Despite a small glimmer of hope in the second leg Dan was unable to respond. The final provided possibly one the best final’s I’ve recently had the pleasure of watching with Nigel setting a very good 19,140 which I’m sure on many other day’s would have been enough to claim the title, However KT despite an early thin split which could have cost him followed it up with a very close encounter with the right hand peg went on to play the table out with a great 19,940 break and claim the title. Congrats to both for a fantastic final.
P.S a special mention to Nigel for the help with the format and to Matt Knight for stepping in with a helping hand on the Saturday when the admin desk required a steady extra set of eyes to steady the ship.
Myself, Martin and Joe hope to see you all next year.
