I have just received this sad news from Mick Holmwood: Quote: I echo Mick's sentiment that he was a good friend and player. We played together at the Queens Head, the Railway and the Bell. We waved him and Brenda off at Heathrow when they emigrated to Australia (Bob later moved on to Japan where he got a job teaching English).
There are loads of mentions of Bob on the Horsham website: his enthusiasm for the game was instrumental in organising our Interleague team from scratch after all the Five Oaks players dropped out; he led a touring party to the Isle of Wight in 1977; and then there was our 72-hour marathon in the same year.
RIP buddy, there are too many anecdotes to mention here, and though you are now gone you will never be forgotten.

I never met Bob but he was one of the leagues greats.
RIP Bob.

Sorry it's a bit late but just some thoughts. to hear the news of Bob's passing . An amazing character and friend for years back in the day. So keen, enthusiastic and a great player. Had some Fantastic times as a good teammate at the Horse and groom and Bell. As Clive said galvanized us youngster's to play interleague and a part of our Charity Fundraising Marathon at the Queens head all those years ago. Rest in peace old friend.
